We had an excellent stay in the Villa Mon Repos the first two weeks in July. The house itself is a lovely old style country house with lovely gardens and plenty of seating for the chill out during Siesta time.
The hotel itself has lovely old style furniture and marble all through the building. There is a lovely restaurant looking out onto the garden - for quirk factor there is a real tree in the middle of the restaurant. The meals we had at night were all first class - we didn't get a choice but this wasn't an issue due to the standard of the food. The breakfast was a continental type with pastries, fruit, breads, selection of condiments and cereal. If you want your Irish or English fry you might be disappointed but when in Rome as they say... the fruit was particularly tasty.
There is a nice public room, bar which we didn't use but the other people staying there did. There is a lovely big open fire which I would think makes the room so cosy in winter.
Our room was wonderful. We had room 101 and it was big, there was a mezzanine, balcony and Sky television - for those non Italian speakers such as there is the possibility of tuning the language to English through the satellite box. The bed was comfortable and due to the window shutters the room was lovely and cool - a godsend when the weather was as lovely as it was when we were there. There is plenty of storage space for your luggage. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom.
The staff were all wonderful. They don't have much English but we managed to communicate pretty well by using our phrase book. We had the same two waiters every night for our holiday and they were great - the Italian guests seemed to have great conversations with them every night. Usually the dinner was a leisurely slow food experience but on the night of the World Cup final they knew that I wanted to get out for the game and they speeded up the service for me. This was appreciated.
The hotel itself is a five minute walk from the centre of town - and what a beautiful centre it is with three main squares.
We would recommend this hotel to anybody who wants a bit of old world charm and an authentic Italian experience. If you are willing to make the effort to speak the little bit of Italian you will get by no problem here.
And, in the spirit of our holiday communication - Grazie a voi per rendere il nostro soggiorno come eccellente.
