Owner description: Space is limited each day to 650 people, but it is well-worth the visit. The site is 5,000 years old, which makes it older than the pyramids. Historians was once believed Newgrange was a passage tomb, but now is believed to be an ancient temple.

“Better than expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

For starters, Newgrange is about half the price of most major attractions. It doesn't feel like they are overcharging you! The exhibit they have is very good and offers great background information before going inside.

We arrived right at opening time and we ended up on a private tour just the two of us! It was such a fascinating tour and our guide was great. She was so informed and had a lot of passion for Newgrange, you could tell it really meant something to her.

Don't miss this - we had no idea what to expect and we were happily impressed.

“ Surprisingly good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

Drove up to newgrange with my fiancé and her friend. Easy to find with plenty of parking at the Centre.
It was quite busy so we had to wait an hour but there was a good exhibition Centre and a cafe with good food and coffee, much better than you would normally get. A little bus takes you to the site and a knowledgeable guide explains the area. All round pretty good.

“Great! But Go Early or Off-Season”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Newgrange is a prehistoric monument built around 3200BC; it predates the pyramids. Visitors are taken by bus from the clean, modern Bru na Boinne Visitor Center to a "holding pen" near the monument where they are met by a guide. The knowledgable guides take the group into the interior while providing a helpful discussion about the construction and meaning of the monument. This is a "must see" attraction for any visitor to Ireland. But go early in the day or during the tourist off-season as this popular site can be very crowded.

“Amazing site of ancient history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

This place was fantastic, everyone in Ireland should try and visit Newgrange! On entering the tomb, the passageway is tight but quite humbling to know that its been around for such a long time.

Heres a few pointers if you want to visit. When my partner and I first went to bru na boinne, newgrange tour was all sold out, so we went on the Knowth tour. This is just as fascinating as Newgrange, containg a lot of satellite tombs etc. Our tour guide was very pleasant and informative. Typically it rained, so bring appropriate clothing, even if the sunny!

We returned a week later determined to visit newgrange, and we got a ticket to see it 2 hours after arriving so we ventured into Drogheda, the time flew by so don't be put off if you have to wait. Again our tour guide at Newgrange was equally as enthusiastic and informative. The visitor centre is alright, be aware that access to the sites is via the centre and buses only. When arriving from the North ignore the Newgrange signs and head down to next junction off the motorway. The signs divert you through the village of Slane, and then across to Newgrange, waste of petrol and time!!

The prices are reasonable, however my partner and I got student discount which is such a deal considering the experience and memories you take with you.

This site is the doorway to Newgrange. An interesting museum providing some of the background to help one understand better the marvel that is Newgrange.
