Owner description: Space is limited each day to 650 people, but it is well-worth the visit. The site is 5,000 years old, which makes it older than the pyramids. Historians was once believed Newgrange was a passage tomb, but now is believed to be an ancient temple.

“awesome place, must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

This experience was one of the best we had while travelling in Ireland. Despite freezing cold, driving rain and gale winds, it was worth every second to experience going inside the tomb and the reconstruction of solstice lighting up the tomb. Lovely knowledgeable tour guide speaking in Gaelic only added to the experience. Limited numbers on buses (24 at a time) means you may have to wait but excellent informative centre will easily fill in the time. If you love ancient sites, you must see.

“Fabulous history and tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

Well worth the effort trying to get here. The visitor centre had an amazing amount of information & our tour guide was exciting in her delivery & had us spellbound. Great idea to be delivered by tour bus to the site to ensure environmental protection. It's a fabulous historical site for Ireland (& the world).

“and Knowth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Certainly a must-see. The visitor center is really informative. Busses take you to both sites. Staff is friendly. Café is really nice. History of the place will stretch your mind. Pleasant amount of walking and nice views.

“Interesting history and well presented tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

We visited here on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived at 1.30 and the next available tour was at 3.15. The cafe had a wide range of items available but was hard to get a table and the staff were impatient with taking orders. The information boards are interesting without overloading you with information. When it's the time for the tour, a bus takes you to the site. A our guide then gives you a brief history of Newgrange and the two neighbouring sites, Knowth and Dowth (Knowth is only open April - October). You then go inside the cross shaped chamber for more history. Afterwards you can walk around the site and then the bus drives you back to the site. A great day but as a warning, some of it is outside and not pleasant in the rain!

“Older than the pyramids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

If driving get off motorway at the correct junction or you will do a'Cooks tour' of the area. Good centre with interactive displays and background. Off on a bus to New Grange. Lots of questions still to be answered. Early farming society must have been fairly organised and sophisticated.
