“Great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

I've lived in the village of Montolieu since 1994 and I'm surprised to see some discontent because my experience of eating there is great 90% of the time (well, nowhere's perfectis it?!)
I've found the service to be friendly and attentive, the cooking is good (not great but more than adequate) and the ambiance in the heart of the village is heart-warming.
I find best value in a starter and main course or main course and dessert, but that's just a personal thing because I find the full menu (24€ I think) a little overwhelming to finish.
On a summer evening, as the sun sets, and the church bell strikes, I still enjoy being there with family and/or friends.

“Turned away”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

We stayed in a local B&B with the intention of walking into the village to eat, having discovered only two places open (the other a cafe bar, full due to a live music night) we decided eating in the square would be nice, At 8.15pm despite their being spare seats and tables (laid for dinner) we were turned away fairly abruptly, being told TOMORROW, which is not great when it was the only Restaurant open. We then had to drive some 10Km to get fed.The landlady did tell us afterwards that the owner is miserable, and not very sympathetic. We would have eaten there the following night had we not been treated so badly.

“Good atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

Good food and choice on the menu, delicious fish soup and chocolate pudding. We were pleased to find a good fish choice and it was good value. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with quite a few locals eating there and also good service.

“A pleasant local restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2011

We have a 2nd home nearby and so go to this restaurant at least 3 times per year - particularly during off season when there is little other choice of open restaurants.
The starters and mains are fine, but the deserts are usually poor.
The main problem is that the menu never varies and so after a few visits it becomes boring; however for the occasional tourist this is not a problem.
It is run by a couple, he cooks and she does the waiting. They are friendly and are very understanding of pour poor attempts at speaking French, however I am a bit miffed that, despite the fact we have been there about a dozen times, they still do not recognise us - I think it is one of the skills of a restauranteur to welcome regulars.
