“Hardest Beds and the Coldest Personnel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

If you like sleeping on the floor, you'll be satisfied with these extra firm twin beds pushed together to make a king. Don't order the breakfast unless you're expecting quality less than Waffle House. We were served bright orange, dry, cold, scrambled eggs and hot dogs, and cold, hard toast - inedible. When we explained that the breakfast was unsatisfactory and that we would like a refund for the meal, the arrogance of the hotel manager was particularly surprising and off putting. They refused to remedy the situation. Overall the hotel is clean but the personnel are cold and rude. You're better off at a Motel 6, where at least you'll have free wifi.

Room Tip: Do not stay here.

If you do not want to pay Rome rooming rates trying Villa Vecchia about 40 minutes (with traffic) outside of the city or drive 5 minutes to Frascati train station and pay 4Euro for a 30 minute ride into the city.

The hotel itself has a nice ambiance with the "open air" common area. The restaurant was overpriced for the quality of food and level of service, but again, you're partially paying for the fancy decor.

Our main complaint about this hotel is the staff. I won't mention names, but each interaction with the front desk DAYTIME staff was unsatisfactory. The staff member also sent us on a wild goose chase in Frascati looking for a restaurant that was closed for the season.

The rooms were large and clean, but ill equipped for a traveler. There was no iron, nor did the front desk provide one, instead you had to pay 9Euro for their ironing service. I must mention the beds...while the rest of the hotel facade was updated, the mattresses were not. Be prepared for a hard nights rest, if any.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road.

We stayed at the Villa Vecchia on a trip booked through Sceptre Tours which included Rome, Tuscany and Venice. The deal was great, but one of the reasons was that the hotels that we stayed in all were on the outskirts of the cities. Frascati is a lovely suburb of Rome, up in the hills so you get a view of the city in the valley. Its about a 40 minute train ride into Rome, which is the way to get into the city. You can take a shuttle from the hotel (prearranged the night before) or drive about 5 minutes to the train station (unless its rush hour - plan on 15 minutes then). The Hotel itself is more of a business hotel. The rooms are fine, but for us the showers were very small (as they were through out Italy) and the bed was very hard (as they were through out Italy). All the meals we had were very good. All in all a good hotel at prices that are much less expensive then staying in the heart of Rome - but for me, I would rather spend the money and be in the heart of Rome.

I just came home from a one week vacation in southern Italy that ended with two nights at the Hotel Villa Vecchia. This was a lovely, quiet hotel located about 1 mile from Frascati. It was an easy walk to town time-wise but the sidewalk was narrow and uneven. The hotel offers a shuttle service to town at a cost of 5 Euros each way. This is a nice change from the chaos of the busy and noisy city of Rome. The food was unimpressive - my package included breakfast and supper each day. If you get a chance to go into Frascati be sure to stop by one of the Porchetta stands for a pork sandwich. You will not be disappointed! Delicious. And stop by the local supermarket to pick up a bottle of local Frascati wine for 4 euros!

Overall we were satisfied with our stay here. The rooms were clean and a decent size, big bathroom. The restaurant is downstairs though and lacking in ambiance.Food was ok. If you leave in the morning (sun) it only took 30 min to drive to the airport. They have a shuttle but you need to book in advance. The Pope's summer residence is nearby as well as beautiful wineries to visit. Frascatti specializes in their white wines. If you want to escape the heat of Rome, the countryside is a nice break. The pool was small

Nice old house with spacious rooms. Only some rooms have Internet. Restaurant and breakfast below average. Good setting for conference in nearby villas, but difficult to reach from airport or center of Rome (taxi needed).

Room Tip: Only some rooms have Internet and views

This hotel has an excellent location on the outskirts of Rome. The staff and food were both very good. The porterage was excellent. Would recommend this hotel.
