I stayed with my family for a couple of nights, the service was terrible, the lady that received us was very rude and from the beginning did not cooperate with us.
we arrived with a baby and before staying there we request a crib and the people from reservations told us that we could request one at the arrival.
when we arrived the lady told us that nobody request for a crib before and they dont have cribs in the property.
They do not accepted american dollars neither any payment with credit cards. The rooms were very humid and have a wall view.
Stay away as much as you can.

I stayed here with my wife as part of a Peru trip last April. We only had one night here, but the room was fantastic. We had a great view out over the gorge, town and mountains.

The room was very good - one main room, but with a couple of levels seperated by a step or two, then a good sized bathroom off it. The room and bathroom were very clean and nicely decorated and there was even a heater in the room if we'd wanted it. But no need - plenty warm enough.

We had a very early start, but breakfast was still good even at silly o'clock in the morning! The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Compared with the other people on our tour who stayed in the middle of town, our place was much higher-end and I think they wished they'd stayed here instead.

We stayed at Pozo Del Cielo for three days during the off season when some have complained of cold, uncomfortable rooms. I don't understand the concerns because our accomodations were spacious and comfortable even without the use of available heaters and hot water was abundant.

The central plaza in Chivay is only a leisurely 10 minute walk.

The grounds are beautiful and even more impressive is the hotel's commitment to the environment. Have the manager explain in detail how the gray water system works and the waste disposal is managed. Nothing leaves the site and reaches the river. Supporting their "green" effort is enough of a reason to stay there but, of course, there is more.

The hotel sits on a hill above the city with broad views of the countryside and the dining room is comfortable place to relax around a fire with a glass of water or wine or a Pisco Sour.

The manager, Leny, and the remainder of the staff were extraordinarily gracious, helpful and accomodating. They provided information about the community and excursions they could help plan for you or excursions you could take yourself. The time they spent with us never seemed rushed.

Obviously, the trip to see Andean Condors and Colca Canyon is obligatory. The landscape, Inca terracing, extraordinary vistas and condors almost defy description. Smaller side trips are equally worthwhile. Take a colectivo to Coporaque on the north side of Colca Canyon and spend a few hours hiking through the impressive Inca site above the town. You'll likely be alone except for a few farmers, burros, sheep and a Llama or two. Beautiful views of the canyon, more terracing and a lot of history.

Finally, forget a guide book's description of Chivay as "...merely a dusty transportation hub." This is a charming little town, that is working very hard and successfully to renew itself. Work is in progress and the results are charming. There are nice restaurants, gracious and helpful people and a lovely central plaza with colorful moto taxis scurrying around everywhere.

Needless to say, we were pleased to have found Chivay, the Colca Canyon and the the Pozo Del Cielo.

We stayed mid-January after a blitz around Arequipa and Puno, and with all of us pretty tired. There were a couple of other parties in the hotel but the overall impression was that this was definitely as low as any season gets. We didn't fancy another 'cultural evening' at a local restaurant, so booked the restaurant: service was slow and ponderous, the microwave timer 'ping' sent shivers of worry down our spines but the food turned out to be very good. The real problem was that there was just no atmosphere about the place at this time of year!

Ill cut to the chase: the property is cold with poorly functioning heaters and limited hot water. The rooms are dimly lit with fluorescent lights and are more uncomfortable than comfortable. The service was poor and the restaurant's high-point is the view, not the food. I wouldn't stay here again, I would stay somewhere closer to the canyon.

Pozo del Cielo is a 6 minute walk to Chivay Plaza with restaurants and local market. Market is a funny mix of local needs (shovel, vegetables, etc., and western tourist shopping. Crafts are much the same as in Cusco, Aguas Caliente, Puno, but in a low key atmosphere and not overwhelming quantities. I love the location as it's quiet, no dogs, roosters, trucks or disco. Firm beds, nice nice rooms, great bathroom with HOT water. Free Wifi is available, but you may need to move around your room to find the "hot-spot" or go up the steps in the dinning room for 5bars. 5soles for using their computer for an hour.

My note. The hotel is proud of it's many traditional features, however this included a doorway to the bathroom and some entry doors that are 5'9" tall. Watch your head. Once in the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The electric heaters warmed the room nicely and dried my socks over night. Food is fine, but I preferred the variety of trying one of the 7 or so restaurants in the small town of Chivay.

Staff is very nice, helpful. The manager offered and arranged our continueing travel bus tickets and provided numerous hints about traveling in Arequipa, cost of taxi's and which ones were licensed and safe. The staff were very nice. The hotel looks 4star, charges 2 or 3 star prices. Bottom-line: Good beds, nice rooms, good bathrooms, lots of Hot water.
Enjoy the day, Rusty

Room Tip: Duck going into the bathroom. Some entry doors are low and include a leather "bumper". I s...
