“Boys weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

spent 4 days with Kevin and Marissa with group of 17, young and old. Excellent hosts, beautiful setting and plenty to do. Paint-ball in the bush was a riot, and Kevin knew the best fishing spots. Orcas and dolphins swimming nearby at times and schools of fish everywhere. Some of the boys went diving on the eastern coast while others relaxed when it was looking too rough to be boating. Neat sports bar with big screen to watch All Blacks and Kiwi League teams.
Bedding was comfortable, lounge and kitchen functional - could have done with a freezer in the fridge.

Came here on a fishing trip with 16 other boys and had a fantastic time. Staff were amazing, friendly and very welcoming to all of us. Kev and Lloyd are bloody legends cheers for the great fishing. Thanks Marisa for the great roast and yummy shot at the bar. Thanks RED & SOX for the cuddles and company. And finally Buddy, your the biggest, baddest legend around, don't ever stop. Looking forward to coming back and seeing you all at a later date.

15 of us stayed at the Stray Possum Lodge a couple of weekends ago. We were collected from the ferry and well looked after throughout the stay by Kevin and his team. They also showed great hospitality in entertaining us. The remoteness of the Lodge, yet so close to the port added to the occasion. We will definitely be back.

I stayed at the Stray Possum Lodge in October 2013 and rate the stay very highly. From the initial booking process to the checkout process everything was so easy.

We were greeted at the Ferry by Kev and the Possum Lodge Crew who took us back to the lodge. We stayed in the group accommodation section and found it to be very comfortable. We fired up the BBQ and ate on the deck while the sun fell. All of the amenities that you would expected were provided + many more (BBQ + plates etc). The kitchen was well set out and clean, as were the rooms and bathrooms.

We ate at the lodge and watched the All Black vs Australia game with some other guests and had a fantastic time on our second night. The food and service at the bar / restaurant was great and recommended.

Overall the lodge had everything we needed and more. The hosts were wonderful and nothing was a hassle. I can't wait to go back and stay again.

Troy

We stayed for a week and really enjoyed the time spent there. We flew into Great Barrier which was amazing in itself, and were picked up by stray possum staff and taken to the accommodation which was clean, comfortable and simple.

The accommodation is a short walk across the valley from the main kitchen / bar area and was clean, quiet and to a standard as expected of a rural backpackers.

We found the staff to be very helpful, providing us with extra facilities for our 3month yr old and they went out of their way to make us lunch too!

In the evening, at the weekends, their was live music, pizza nights and dancing. The mozzies weren't too bad either. There are so many beautiful walks, native bush and heaps of native bird life - a magical place really.

We have nothing but good things to say about Strap Possum and it will always stay in our minds as one of the best weeks holiday we had.

Thanks again Kevin and Marissa and best wishes to you all.

We went as a fishing group, on entering the rooms I was greeted with the smell of fresh linen, I love that smell and it was a welcoming site, especially when you've been out on a boat for most of the day and smell of fish.
The cleaning staff were absolutely wonderful, the next day she asked me if I had any washing that I wanted to put through while she a load on. WOW what a life saver, and to top it off we came back to freshly baked bread and a pot of pork bones! YUMMY!!!!
The owners have really gone all out with improvements on the lodge and were very hospitable.
They even smoked our fish that we caught, that was a bonus : )
Will definitely be going again
