“The Viking”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Although the surrounding area was beautiful and someone had obviously spent a long time creating the boat jigsaws on the wall, the service was ridiculously slow and the standard of cleanliness was not good. Maybe the service was so slow as staff were completing New jigsaws to put on the walls? Main courses took an hour to come. The wait was far too long for the standard of food. We waited half an hour for four kids bowls of ice cream and to be honest I wish I hadn't bothered because the ice cream was grim. The kids "fruit shoots" from the bar were from aldi, as were the bottles of wine and ketchup.

The toilets were unpleasant. In the women's there was a choice of two cubicles: one had no lock and mud on the floor, the other didn't flush. I didn't want to touch the sink due to the healthy growth of mould.

The kids play area had last been used by a family of hippos. At the end of every slide there was a pool of mud. The play equipment was rusty and needed a lick of paint.

Overall I'd say save your money. But, if you're a family of very patient hippopotamuses then this pub is definitely for you!

Just been for a meal and the meals and drinks came to a total of 30 quid for a family a four which is dirt cheap that included 2 alcoholic drinks and i would say the meals are average but you get what you pay for....ive had alot worse meals in thornwick caravan site cafe which was owful.. I don't think the place deserve the bad reviews on here .. the play ground is looking a bit run down and needs a lick of paint and the pub side looks like its full of regulars but they do have kids karoke

We didn't stay at this b&b but we have stayed for meals and were highly delighted with the quality and cost. We didn't have any issue with the staff and found everyone who served us very courteous and prompt. The equipment for the kids could do with updating but it wasn't the be all and end all. Very accommodating as they also provide a free lift back to the camp site at the end of the evening.

Customer care is something this hotel has none off, Went for a meal and they got my order wrong and said it was my fault, I have never been anywhere in my life and been treat so disgracefully they can keep my money and shove it where the sun does not shine.

Usually stay on thornwick bay caravan park but usually eat, dine n drink in the Viking anyway so on hearing they did self catering studios thought we would give it a try. They even allow dogs, a bonus seeing as we av one. The studio had everything in u would need on a self catering basis, simple rooms but adequate n clean. Would av been better if they had an enclosed area to just let the dog out in a morning! Bonus no long walk after a good drinking session:) will definately book again xx

Walk away, dirty the toilets smelt worse then a third world pot the play area is a joke, bar staff rude and miserable.such a shame as the location is superb.what a waste. The bottom of the slides have mud puddles. The play area is the size of a shoe box, next to what looks like abandoned waste land. The owner was rude and seemed not interested in his establishment at all. This could be an amazing place for families to go and could support a huge area for kids. But no its just a big waste mud pit
