“Food excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

Can only speak of the food, although having looked at room 1, would definitely like to stay at the Anchor. However, living in Burnham would make this a little pointless. Luckily not pointless to eat there. On a quiet Sunday evening we received a warm and friendly welcome. The portions were very generous and very tasty. In fact the lasagne, which was a well balanced mix of mince, cheese and tomato was, if anything too large! The gammon came with two well cooked eggs and delicious chips. As the Anchor is within easy walking distance for us and on the waterfront, we will definitely be making this one of our regular haunts. Oh and apparently the beer was excellent.

Awful value for money, NOT CLEAN, and terrible service. Wouldn't go back there again if I was paid to.

“Brilliant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We visited the Anchor for two nights and didn’t know what to expect. I was a bit worried as some of the reports stated that it was noisy and a bit grim.
We were shown to room 1, by a nice bloke from the bar. It wasn’t as crowded in the bar as I thought it may be, as it was carnival weekend and it was 3pm. The room was great, it has a wonderful view over the river and a great bay window with a table and two chairs in front, so you can just sit and look at the view. The bed is large and a modern four poster. It’s a bit hard and creaky and I smacked my head on the overhead bit a few times, but that’s just me. There were coffee/tea making facilities and a few biscuits, as you would expect. There is also a nice two seater sofa at the end of the bed, in front of the TV which is a nice touch. The bathroom has a shower, but no bath. The shower is very tired and has no pressure at all, offering only a small dowsing of water. It’s ok for a couple of days, but would benefit from a pump. There is a nice big double wardrobe.
The window looks out onto the river and also the bricked terraced area by the river wall, outside the pub. The terrace brings the users up to a level where they can look inside the window. While I was sitting there looking out, I was waved at quite a few times by passers-by. This isn’t a bad thing really, jut an observation. The window is glazed in such a way as to obscure the view if closed. We had the sash window open all of the time as it did get hot. The window itself was quite hard to open and close, due to it sticking, but it’s old so expected.
On arrival we were greeted on the bathroom by a bottle of ‘Mr Muscle’ still in the sink and half used toiletries. This was obviously an oversight but didn’t give a good first impression really.
All in all we had a great stay and we will do it all again.

“Poor food even worse service!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

We booked in for an anniversary sunday lunch as we wanted to try somewhere different and we really disappointed with the outcome. The service was very poor, the roast dinner was tiny and all of the vegetables were uncooked, gross! We weren't asked once if everything was okay, nor were we asked if we'd like anything else! We found ourselves having to go to the bar to make orders for coffee as non was offered! The sugar sachets supplied had all been kept somewhere damp and the sugar was stuck inside to the paper! All in all a very poor excuse for Sunday lunch and we will not recommend nor will we visit here again! What a shame, so much potential but so little effort!

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Tables were sticky, waited a long time for the food which was of a poor standard. Ham ploughman's consisted of a slice of nice ham, a bit of lettuce with a very small slice of tomato, a dish of branston pickle and a roll. In the middle of the plate was an apple! Very poor.
