Love this place. It's a relaxed, friendly restaurant with great atmosphere and the food is delicious. The oysters fried in tempura batter are heavenly and you can buy just one which is a good idea for those who just want a taster.

It's a set-up from a gastropub - not fine dining but nevertheless a great place to eat and entertain.

Not stayed over so can't comment on the accommodation.

Thank you Oyster Smack for a wonderful stay. I used to live in Burnham on crouch and had heard of the Oyster Smacks reputation. I took my girlfriend there for a weekend getaway and we weren't disappointed.

Our Chalet room was spacious and comfortable.
The Staff there go out of their way to make you feel at home even going so far to upgrade us on checkin without asking.
The Cocktails at the bar were fantastic, We had mojito's (Best I have ever had) and the food in the restaurant is fantastic. The service was friendly and efficient even though they were very busy

I can't fault the place, was a shame to leave. I will return for more Mojito's

Thank you for your feedback on Trip Advisor. I have passed your kind words onto the staff, and the Cocktail barperson "Tanya" was happy to hear that you enjoyed her Mojito's.

We will hopefully see you soon.

Food very good, choice of beer poor
Service friendly
Room basic and exposed onto car park, motel feel, not very female friendly
Toilet smelt of sewerage (reported to management, no gratuity offered)
Took a key by accident, and when I forgot to return it, made an unauthorised transaction on my card for large amount.

Would not reccomend staying here.

Room Tip: Try and not be put in the car park to sleep

We understood from your emails to us that if we did not refund the £30 that you would write a negative review. We understand the benefits of Trip Advisor but we can not be put in a position where we bow down to a threat of a negative review.

With in our terms of conditions a customer is liable if they take company property, the key you had was a bespoke fob. You were charged after you failed to return the key after two weeks and then the price for the key was fully refundable on return of the key; The price is not based on just the key it is because we have to change the locks due to security reasons for our other guests.

As we can not work out why you are still retaining the key and not returning it, as you keep promising; we have had to change the locks to the door. If you had lost it, then by informing us would of helped you in this situation and the card would not have been charged.

I am at a loss that you felt that no action was taken with regard to the smell in your room. As on checkout you said that you understood sometimes this can happen and it was just feedback and you felt that you should just inform us; and you were asked if we could do anything for you.

The food here is outstanding, the menu is very varied but we went for the special boards, the meat platter of salt brisket and duck ham was excellent, and the roast cod on braised potato and creamed leeks and bacon was to die for, the cod was cooked perfectly and the rest of the dish tasted wonderful, will be back, found out that the owner is also the chef so I must say well done Trevor keep up the good work

We stayed at the Oyster Smack Inn as, like a lot of guests, we were in Burnham on Crouch for a wedding.

Rather than being a dedicated hotel, the Oyster Smack is a popular restaurant/bar, with some rooms within the building, as well as a few chalets at the rear.

Our chalet room was a good size, with a comfortable double bed, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, a bathroom with a stand-alone shower (no bath) as well as a flat screen TV. Unfortunately, the room didn’t have any windows, with the only natural light coming from a skylight, meaning we were woken up by the sunlight early in the morning.

Although it was only early September, we found the temperature in the room at night to be quite cold. There was a wall radiator, but as the central heating was off, it wasn’t of any use.
There were also a few minor housekeeping points that were missed, such as papers from previous guests left in drawers, and used contact lenses in a corner of the room, but the room was otherwise fairly clean.

The included breakfast, which I was looking forward to given the Oyster Smack’s good reputation, was disappointing. The continental selection was poor, with just a few packets of bread, butter, jam, yoghurt, cereal and a few fruits. After we were seated, the waitress approached and asked what we would like, but weren’t offered a menu or informed of what was actually available! We just asked for a “cooked breakfast”, as we knew they offered a cooked option. It’s a shame they charge an additional £7 for this, I think maybe just having a breakfast menu and allowing guests to select an item, included in the room rate, would be a better approach.

On the positive side, the bar staff were polite and professional, and were happy to have a chat and inform us about the local area.

Thank you for your feedback.
I have passed on your kind words and constructive criticism to the staff.
I am glad that you had a comfortable night’s sleep, we do have rooms with baths and they can be requested when booking.
We have recently focused on upgrading our continental breakfast buffet which includes having freshly baked croissants, muffins and a cheese and meat platter option plus many other improvements.
Unfortunately on your visit it appears you were sat on a table that did not have a breakfast menu. On our breakfast menu you can order a full English breakfast, Salmon and scrambled eggs and other options.
We do hope we can accommodate you in the future so you can experience the improvements.
