“I wish I could have lived there!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014

The Dunnottar Castle is one of the most beautiful places of Scotland.
A visit to the ruins themselves is worth the cost of the tickets (which is very cheap, 6 pounds per adults, 14 pound for a family of 2 adults and 2 children), but, after the visit, just sit there and enjoy the landscape and the atmosphere of that amazing place.
Just be careful because it could be hazardous, especially in windy days (the castle may be closed in high wind conditions so maybe give a ring before going there)

“Beautiful ruin poised on a cliff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

This is not the most accessible castle in Scotland. There is a car park nearby (but there is still a bit of climbing to get into the castle), but I think the best way to approach Dunnottar is to walk (2.5 miles) from Stonehaven.

That way you get lots of glimpses and different views of the castle as you approach.

“Spectacular”

Well worth the effort needed to climb back up after your visit. Well maintained castle and the views from the area are fantastic. Especially liked the restored room.

“Simply stunning.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

I have wanted to visit Dunnottar Castle for some time having seen the dramatic photos online. It does not disappoint! Admission price excellent value in my opinion. I didn't purchase a guide book but wish I had for more information about the castle's history whilst walking around. Nevertheless, you can let your imagination do the job instead and take you back to times past. The location is absolutely jaw dropping. An absolute must visit if you are in the area. Dunnottar Woods scheduled for tomorrow!

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Dunnottar Castle is one of the most impressive castle ruins I've been able to see. And Scotland has done a great job maintaining the grounds. There are a number of small trails to hike around that can give you some pretty fantastic views of the castle.

Our one complaint was that when we went, the winds were so strong that they closed down going into the castle ruins itself. However the trip to see the castle was still worth it even without seeing and traversing the inside. The coastline and views of the castle itself were just astounding.
