There's enough of these ruins left to really give you a feel of daily life in a castle in 1200AD. It is spectacular, from the cliff-face walls bombarded by crashing waves to the soldiers quarters and fireplaces. The restored dining room is beautiful. We spent 2 hours here and could have happily stayed for 4 just soaking up the medieval atmosphere. If you only see 1 castle in Scotland, make sure it's this one.
