“Definitely recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Our two nights started with a warm welcome from the staff (thanks Kelly!) and a very nice lunch in the pub. A nice menu with really good food - all meals were very good from breakfast (very good traditional plus options) through dinner. The pub has a nice selection of beers and a huge selection of liquors. It seemed as if tourists are not the only ones that like the place. There were busy times full of locals. The rooms were clean and well outfitted. The bathroom was small as some have written, but totally fine, clean and modern. The views were great and it is a nice walk to the castle or town center...and an ok walk from the train station (we walked in a cold December drizzle). One of the strongest memories is that of the people - both the towns people and the staff were really nice and made for a very pleasant stay. For me, the real test is if I would stay there again, and in this case, I would go out of my way to come back to Stonehaven and stay at the Ship Inn. See you next time guys!

Our priorities were all met and exceeded by The Ship Inn. We were certainly comfortable in our room, but hadn't expected a harbor view quite so compelling. It was also a bit of a surprise when we couldn't get a table for dinner right away - too full of locals. We ducked down to a place next door(also very good, but certainly not packed), and returned for dessert. Everything was delicious. Ditto for breakfast - there is something very special about a simple breakfast attended to by the owner of the establishment. We would gladly return.

Second visit to Ship Inn - same as first time - no complaints and will return for a third time if required.
The fish dishes on offer are also first class and are well presented. Breakfast menu is also very good and cooked to order rather than the buffet breakfast set up which is more common nowadays.

Room Tip: Rooms with harbour view are an added bonus.

We stayed here for one night and paid £120 for a room because it was the only option left in Stonehaven for us to book in advance. Apparently it's a really popular place!? For £120 a night I'd have expected a good sized room and a bath, as well as a shower. Had a harbour view, but tiny bathroom with only a shower and a small room. Breakfast was alright. My husband liked his haddock and poached eggs, but my veggie english breakfast tasted like one you'd get at a not-quite-so-greasy cafe and I really didn't enjoy it. Main complaint is that at around 7/7:30am we suddenly got woken up and thought someone was coming into our room as we heard keys going into a door that sounded like it was ours! Turns out, the cleaners linen closet is right outside room no.4 and they were already using it at 7/7:30am! This was SO inconsiderate to guests who are in that room (us) and are on holiday, NOT wanting to get up early. That was really annoying and they kept coming back and forth to that closet all morning. Seems ridiculous to pay a high price for a luxury view room only to be woken up early!! Another thing to watch out for...breakfast ends at 9:30 and check out is by 10am...not exactly sensitive to people on holiday wanting to lie in a bit. The hotel was fine, clean etc. but I wouldn't pay that price again.

Room Tip: Ask to NOT have room 4. You pay a premium price for the view and then get woken up at 7-7:30am by th...

Booked in here as there were no rooms in Aberdeen at a reasonable cost and was pleasantly surprised but the friendly welcome and great seafood. The room was clean and comfortable and I will definitely be back by choice next time.

This is the first time I have stayed here and I enjoyed it very much.
The staff are very friendly, welcoming and professional.
The breakfast was nice, fresh and plentiful with lots of choices.
I had dinner in the captains rest, which is part of it, I have eaten here on 3 or 4 previous occasions and the food is excellent, great sea food and shellfish.
On most occasions (as with this one) it gets very noisy and a couple had two little girls in school uniforms who wouldn't sit down and be quiet, they were crawling under the tables playing with a mobile phone and running out and in the front door.
A full table of 8 women came in and fortunately I was leaving , good night night though
