“True Paradise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

I have just returned from my second week long stay at Grand Paradise Samana. I want to start off with how beautiful Samana is, and the drive to the resort is stunning. The resort is a 10 minute walk from a little town called Las Galaras. The beach is beautiful, lots of palm trees and beautiful flowers. I never felt crowded or like I had to fight for a beach chair. I did a lot of exploring because the area is so beautiful. The staff is wonderful! they made us feel like family. I will miss them dearly until next time. The animation team is great! Always trying to get people involved with games, sports, dancing, ect. The nightly shows were really good, some very funny! The food at the buffet was pretty good. Our fridge was restocked everyday with water, coke & sprite. Our room was clean, and the maid service was great. Everyone is very friendly, and singing & dancing. I can't wait to return!

Very nice hotel. Extremely clean, with a staff that pay great attention to details. Like little flowers and blanket designs on your bed every morning!(Anna)the food was good with a nice variety. The beach was very well maintained, and extremely relaxing. And there was always plenty of lounge chairs to be had. I also enjoyed the fact that there was shade near the beach so that you cloud still enjoy the view well as getting out of the sun.The nightly shows, entertainment and activities, organized and put on by the friendly, energetic and talented staff were truly amazing and a lot of fun!Especially Daniel and Jessie. I recommend anyone visiting to seek them out. They'll make your vacation even more special. I would definitely return!

We needed to get away for a week and Grand Paradise Samana was just the ticket. We got a great last minute deal from Air Canada Vacations for a week, April 11-17 . Everything was included, including ground transportation and arrival and departure fees.
We like small resorts as they tend to be more intimate, casual and relaxed (the opposite of the newer supersized luxury resorts). Grand Paradise Samana did not disappoint. The resort is older and a little worn but the atmosphere and location more than make up for any minor flaws. It consists of several older low rise buildings, a cluster of villas (many of which were occupied only on weekends by locals) and 5 newer, taller buildings. We were in one of the latter in a ground floor, corner room. It was spacious with 2 double beds, a modern bathroom, walk in closet, TV and bar fridge. Every thing was clean and well maintained.
The resort is truly at the end of the road next to the little town of Las Galeras. The beach is beautiful, protected from the prevailing northeast wind by a point of land and a reef that the seas break on before gently rolling ashore. The beach slopes gradually out toward the reef making it safe for swimmers and waders alike. There are plenty of loungers but if you want shade you have to place them under one of the lower trees. There are hundreds of palm trees that reach up to 50 feet tall providing only slight shade. The beach is raked and cleaned continuously during the day and tidied every night. Watch out for the occasional horse dropping! The beach bar makes the best drinks and the beach restaurant, which is a-la-carte at night, is open for lunch in the afternoon. There are 3 pools, one in between the newer buildings that was usually quiet and 2 in the middle of the older section that were popular with families. Both pools have bars.
The main buffet was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the selection was endless. you could eat there everyday and not have the same thing twice. The kitchen staff tried really hard to keep the meals interesting and were successful most of the time. The dining room staff was attentive and friendly.
The entertainment was not original, with lots of dancing, but the animation staff was friendly and full of energy. They were on the beach all day organizing activities and then danced for 2 hours at night. The show was always preceded by audience participation "Quiz Shows" or dance lesson/competitions. The show at the pool was spectacular with torches and dancing on a pontoon on the pool. A special "Hola" to Lima and Mikiki.
We did one excursion. The "Cultural Tour" included visits to an "organic" farm, a school, an iguana sanctuary and a visit to Playa Rincon, touted as number 5 of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. It is a beautiful beach but, if it is to keep that ranking they have to do a better job of keeping it clean. The brush was full of garbage. The bar where we ate lunch had no running water and outhouses and garbage dumped out back. It was less than appetizing.
This was our only disappointment. The resort was comfortable and relaxing. The staff was excellent and couldn't do enough for us. The area is beautiful and relatively unspoiled. We would go back again.

I planned a surprise of a cake for my husbands 40th birthday. The staff out did themselves. There was a cake, fruit platter and the room was decorated to help us celebrate. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. Our room was 7306 and was very clean with good beds. We stayed April 14-21. The beach and pool got used lots by our children 14 and 12 as well as ourselves. We made use of the pool tables and other games as well. The only issue we had was we got board of the food. Thanks for taking such good care of us. We even met two other families and built a nice friendship with them.

My trip was full of adventure, fun, and relaxation. I am a 29 year old African American female who traveled with a female friend of the same age to and through the Dominican Republic. We rented a car in Santo Domingo and drove to Samana. We did get lost at the very beginning of our trip and traveled about 30 minutes out of the way in the wrong direction. Absolutely no one spoke English, so getting directions was VERY HARD. Signs are difficult to see if there are any at all. Be VERY alert if you rent a car. Also watch out for motoconchos (people on little motorcycles), there are not really any strong driving rules, so if you are not alert and have quick reflexes, it could be a little dangerous. If you have to stop and ask questions, and you are not fluent in spanish, stop at a hotel (often the desk clerk is bilingual), this is what we did to get back on the right track.

Samana is a cute, bustling and laid back (all at the same time) little town. People are ssssoooo friendly. If you want a tour guide, go to the Bombero and ask for Anthony and Makendy. They are two locals that helped us get the rest of the way to our resort when we thought we were lost again. They speak limited English, but they are very friendly and will help you tremendously.

Now on to the resort...the landscaping is absolutely beautiful. The staff is EXTREMELY friendly, I am now facebook friends with some of them! There were not many Americans (and NO African Americans) on the resort, but many people from Canada and other European countries. However, we were treated respectfully and all people were extremely friendly. The rooms are very old (you definitely get what you pay for), but I highly recommend spending as little time there as possible or you will miss out on the beauty and essence of Samana. We preferred to leave the resort to explore the Island, however, it was a perfect safe haven for two women at nightfall. The walls are a little thin so try to be quiet for your indoor night time activities! The food kept us from being hungry, but it's nothing to brag about or complain about for that matter either. The drinks-PERFECTO! The beach is gorgeous and clean, and it's awesome to be able to use the Kayaks for free! If you walk toward the little town of Galeras, you may find young (cute) men sitting around ready to offer you a boat ride for a small fee. If you can, indulge them and definitely indulge yourself. Everybody will be happy in the end. Definitely go to El Salto de Limon. It's the most beautiful natural experience I've ever had. Be prepared for a good hike and dress appropriately (in particular with the right shoes, tennis shoes should do you just fine if not hiking boots) and bring your water camera!

I LOVE Samana, I'm very happy I did not go to a major city. The locals, the island...I'm definitely coming back.

Just returned from a week stay at The Grand Paradise with my husband and two teenage daughters April 7-14. This is actually our "Third" visit there and we thoroughly enjoyed it yet once again!!

The rooms are Modest, NOT luxurious, but clean and comfortable, and equipped with two double beds, washroom, T.V. and a mini fridge and there are NO bugs!! We each had our own rooms in the 8000 Block (one of the newer buildings) it’s a little further away and involves a short walk but it’s quiet and functional and worth the short jaunt. The entire resort is surrounded with lush greenery and flowers. We love it!

The maids work very hard to keep everything neat and tidy in your rooms, so having said that A big shout out to our maid, Isabella!!- She cleaned both rooms, changed/made beds, provided towels and stocked our mini fridge with pop and water on a daily basis!! She was genuinely pleasant and friendly and very thankful for any tips that she may have received!!

The Beach is Awesome! It’s pristine and surrounded with palm trees and the sand is white and the water is clear with a smooth sandy bottom and no rocks!

There are an abundance of lounge chairs available on and around the beach and you never have to worry about finding one! You can always find someone raking any debris away from the shore line that may have washed up during the night. The grounds are also maintained/watered daily. The property is covered with a variety of beautiful flowers and shrubs/plants. Extremely pleasing to the eye.

The Pools are really very nice! There are 3 in total. And each one has its own bar!! They are cleaned daily and the water is cool and a refreshing break from the Ocean. The pool that was closest to us had a waterfall which was a delight!!

The food and drinks are Awesome! There is a variety of foods available in buffet style. Pork Chops, Chicken, steak and Local dishes, along with the usual favorites (Pizza, Fries, burgers, Pasta and Salads) Trust me, you won’t go hungry! There are different themed nights each day of the week and the foods match accordingly!! Many different cocktails are available and a Note to Beer Drinkers (Beer is ICE COLD)!! Shout out to Miguel the Bartender for such prompt and friendly service!!

Now for The Animation/Entertainment Team- They are AMAZING! They work Very hard both day and night, ‘Long Hours’, just to make your stay enjoyable, they plan and offer a variety of games and entertainment that they get you involved in (ex; such as: Beach Vollyball, aerobics and dance lessons). They even operate a Kids Club for the little ones.
Everyone involved in the Animation Team are an “EXTREMLY TALENTED” group and deserve a lot of credit! A Huge Shout Out to - Daniel, Lima, Zapata & Mikiki – These Guys are “Super Talented” and genuinely friendly!! Nos vemos el año que viene mis amigos!!!

They offer a Professional Photo Service on the property which I highly recommend! (It’s not part of the hotel) But The Photography is Superb!! You can find the staff wandering around snapping photos of you, however, there is no pressure to purchase the photos, that is entirely up to you!! Shout out to Ignacio Cheda, “Our Photographer” who captured some wonderful moments for our family!! Gracias Ignacio!!

Shout out to The Front Desk/Reception Team, sorry, it’s difficult to remember all your names, however you all know who you are! Gracias for all your help!!

This Resort is a charm, in a jewel of a location and it offers something for Everyone Young and Old!! The Staff are friendly and always ready to help you with anything you need!! If you are looking for an escape to paradise for rest and relaxation then look no further than “The Grand Paradise” – Samana.

Last but not Least, A Special Thank You to Samuel Vasquez “Manager” – You are a Very Gracious Man!! Muchas Gracias Senior!!
