I've been to DR a year ago and reading the other reviews could not do anything else than to fall back again in the sweet memories of the stay at Casa Lotus. It's all been said. Perfect - and personal! - service. Teresa is wonderful and very diplomatic, so she will help you if you need info on where to go etc, but will leave you alone if you just want to rest by yourself (she was the only person to respond from Las Galeras when I was writing to several hotels).
A wonderful breakfast with fresh juice, fresh bread and noni tea :). The wi-fi was working perfectly. True about the shower, and the room could have had one bigger bed instead of 2 separate ones, but that was not material for us. It was so cool to hear the sound of waves in the nights.
Casa Lotus is in a perfect location, big garden with all the extras of a getaway paradise, a "Robinson island" just opposite in the ocean always catches your eye, and now I wish we spent more time just relaxing there, not trying to grasp everything and visit the whole peninsula. Some of the spots are worth it, and some not.
La Playita - a very nice beach, although a bit crowded;
Playa Rincon - supposed to be in the top 10 of world's most beautiful beaches, to be visited by boat: a total disappointment. The beach is very dirty and the fish stands on the shore, although tasty, are quite expensive. It seems the locals are doing whatever they can to rip you off your money (unfortunately, that concerns the whole DR and consumes much of your energy to get rid of the different offers and just to rest by yourself).
Boca del Diablo: a good place to go in a windy day with big waves - then it looks more impressive.
Las Terrenas and Samana: seemed for me to be too touristic and loud.
Playa Fronton and Playa Madame: we went there on foot with a local that Teresa introduced us to, a nice guy who is also a cook and we spent the evenings at his house rather than going to the local restaurants (we tried the Italian place the first evening and did not really find it to be a good value for money). Playa Fronton is impressive, but go there in the morning while the sun is not behind the cliffs. Playa Madame - the best surprise for me out of all beaches, not the most famous one but we liked it best! a small, paradise like beach, also to be visited best in morning.
Overall, Casa Lotus is just the perfect getaway, if I ever go back to Samana peninsula, I would not stay anywhere else. Thanks Teresa for your hospitality, you're a star!
