“Best Meal in Las Galeras”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

We dined twice at Le Tainos, a sophisticated French restaurant at the crossroads in town. The food was interesting and generally very well done. The mahi-mahi ceviche was excellent on two occasions. The key lime chicken and honey oregano pork were both tasty, but a little overcooked to our taste....perhaps a reasonable precaution in a third-world country where the food supply may be questionable. Surprisingly for a French restaurant, the cocktail list was very long but the wine list was very short: one Chilean white and red, one French rose. The white was very good and reasonably priced. The thatched-roof architecture and interior design were very well done, although I would have preferred chairs with backs rather than small benches with none. The sound track, sort of French pop from the 30's, was one of the best I've experienced. Virtually no English spoken by the French patron and head waiter nor the Dominican waitstaff, but we made do. One can imagine becoming a regular.
Unlike the Italian place across the street, they do not take credit cards: cash only!

“Great food, unbeatable price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

My wife and I stopped off here during our recent trip to Las Galeras, as suggested by a guide book (Lonely Planet) we picked up to make our trip a little easier.

We were very happy that we did.

The restaurant was very clean and well kept and the food was outstanding.

Once again we deferred to the guidebook and ordered the Honey Oregano Pork Mignon and it was outstanding. It was served with a beautifully presented array of fresh fruits and vegetables and without having an appetizer our dessert our hunger was satisfied.

Including our beverages the total came in at just over 900 pesos (less than $25), which, to be honest, is probably what it would cost to eat at McDonald's.

Service wise it's true that the staff could have visited us at the table to see how things were (other than to take our order and ask if we wanted dessert) but there was nothing glaring enough to deduct from the rating. It was also very helpful that, despite English being the fourth or fifth most-common language spoken in Las Galeras, that we were presented with a menu that had both French and English descriptions (despite the fact that we had both decided in advance to follow our guide book's recommendations)

The one downside is they open relatively late for people who would prefer to head back to their hotel before dark (6 p.m.) but otherwise a spectacular break from the tedium of buffet living at the all-inclusive resort.

Highly recommended.

“Excellent food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

Had the pleasure of eating there several times during my recent two week stay in Las Galeras. Wandered in there on Christmas Eve and decided to go for a hamburger--I know, I know--but it turned out to be an incredibly tasty dish. Chef and Owner Audrey really goes out of her way to make each meal exceptional. Nearly every seat has a view into the kitchen so you can watch her work her magic. Make a reservation beforehand, they do get booked.
