“One Special Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

We spent 4 days in Las Galeras, and this was by far my favorite spot. SolAzul has impeccable grounds with swinging bed-chairs under thatched roofs. The location is excellent as you can walk to the center of town in about one minute. Esther has great advice to help you plan the day's adventures. She helped arrange a boat trip for us, and she has an abundance of resources on the area. She also makes the best banana jam I have ever tasted. So much more wonderful than an all-inclusive.

Family of 5, kids ages 8, 14 & 16 on a 10 day long trip to Dominican Republic from long island New York, we spent 1/2 of the time in Samana / Las Galeras and the 2 nd half in Punta Cana,
A. B&B like this place is by far a better choice to the all inclusive huge places that charges hundreds of dollars per night and stuff you with low quality food all day, and you get to get out and explore the area, see amazing places, talk to the locals and eat local food - in many cases fresh tasty and healthy.
B. Esther and Pierre are great hosts in their lovely place, walking distance to everything but than beautiful rustic cabins , amazing grounds and a pool for the kids.
C. Playa rincon is the reason we went to Samana, discovered it few years ago when on a cruise - we speak spanish so asked the locals for the best looking beach in the area, 25 minutes drive on a dirt road or 5 minutes on a boat taxi from Las Galeras beach - one of the best looking beach in the carribeans, and we have been to almost every island other than Cuba over the years .......
D. Should have skipped Punta Cana, friends we traveled with never been there and wanted to see ...... They agreed, nothing to compair, crowded, dirty, expensive.........

Room Tip: Face the pool

We spent 4 nights here and Esther and Pierre, the owners, were wonderful host...very welcoming and helpful with our questions about sites, beaches, restaurants, etc., to visit around Las Galeras. The bungalows are very charming and clean, though they are a bit close to each of the neighboring bungalows, so various noise can occasionally be a problem. But we would still highly recommend this place and would love to return again. The room rate includes breakfast, and it was fantastic!

We really liked this place-here on our honeymoon. The rooms had an island feel with thatched roofs, etc. The pool is nice, and the breakfast was great. BUT-if you are here on a romantic get-away, don't stay here. All the rooms are connected, and the walls don't go all the way up, thus you can hear everything in the other room- from whispered conversation to toilet flushing. The owners speak Spanish and french(very little english), but are super nice, so it was too bad we had to leave. We would probably stay here with family, but never just the two of us- difficult to partake in all necessary honeymoon activities.

A beautiful, peaceful and welcoming place, which made a fabulously relaxing holiday. We stayed for 6 days and Esther and Pierre were unfailingly helpful and generous. They have a great balance of being there when you need them, interested and also not intrusive. The garden is a joy, breakfast was something to look forward to everyday. Cannot recommend it enough, great value and location. Go.

We were really looking forward to our visit after reading the reviews, and it is a charming place. The rooms are lovely, the owners do everything to make you feel welcome and the breakfasts are delicious.
I hesitated whether to write this review as everything else was so nice but I wished we had known in advance about the one problem - the acoustics.
Basically we could hear everything going on outside and in the next room. This included music from the local bars, motorbikes zooming up the track from early in the morning, dogs barking, people talking, coughing, conversations in the next room - and people using the toilet(!)
We felt we couldn't talk at a normal level or make any other noise as we too would be overheard, not great when you're trying to relax on holiday.
We were booked in for a week but after four days we had to apologise to the owners and move hotels (to Todo Blanco, see review) to get some privacy and a good night's sleep. Fortunately someone else immediately took our room.

We spent 6 days at the wonderful SolAzul and we loved every minute of it. The owners are dedicated to make you feel comfortable and everything they do and make is with love. The hotel is in a lovingly tended tropical garden, the rooms are spacious and very clean. The breakfast include eggs any style you want, fresh fruit, freshly baked bread, cereals and yogurt. Our ten year old loved the pool, he spent hours in there while we could relax on the comfortable sunbeds and read. There is a choice of beautiful beaches close-by and lots of different restaurants so there is enough to do around there.
