We just returned from the Grand Palladium.
The resort is tranquil, beautiful, and massive.
Overall we had a good time, but it was what we made of it. It was the little things one expects that damped this trip.
Service - Simply put, awful. From the moment we stepped off the transfer bus, the poor service began. We were told we could not check in without our travel voucher from Apple. We were sent to the Cyber Hut to pay $5 to get online and print the voucher, plus an additional cost for printing. Fifteen minutes later, the worker in the Cyber Hut sent us back up b/c the printer was not working. When we returned to the check-in desk, we proceeded to stand there waiting to be acknowledged. About 25 minutes later, we were told, 'Yea Man, no problem, we check you in, you don't need for the voucher.' We attempted to get change several times at the desk, they never could. Even when we would be in the souvenir shop, no change available. However, when we would inquire at the Lady Hamilton side, change was always available. Upon room arrival, the bell man told us as long as we took care of him, he would take care of our bar being stocked, and he told us not to stock it thru housekeeping, he'd do it better. The service at dinner was subpar, with the exception of Bubba's Steak House, may have just been a fluke, but we had a very attentive server that evening. Getting drinks on your own is the way to go - don't expect them anytime soon from waitstaff. Our transfer bus to go home was over 30minutes late to pick us up. WAKE UP CALL - a joke - we called for a 7am wake up call and we were called at 4am!
Spa - The workout facility is ok, but has a distinct odor to it, and always out of water. The room is not AC'd, and that makes it tough to get a good workout. The massages are a glorified rub down, save your money - my partner does a better job than the masseuse I had!
Pool Area - FANTASTIC and BEAUTIFUL....but be VERY CAREFUL, we saw multiple people end up with gashes and gouges on their feet/toes from the many missing and loose tiles in the pool. TOWELS - good luck - they were ALWAYS OUT of towels. We took part in some of the poolside activities - Salsa dancing, games, etc.
Beaches - Sunset Cove is great - fantastic Jerk Chicken. It was the complete opposite end of the resort for us, so we only went once. We did Kayak and that was fun.
Room - Our room was fantastic. We were in building 17 with an ocean view. It was very secluded and romantic - perfect. The accommodations within the room were ok. We only had housekeeping come in once during our 4 night stay, but that's b/c we chose it to be that way. The complaints about the shower water pressure are not consistent - we had NO problems with pressure except once.
Nightlife - The disco and sports bar were ok. The nightly shows were not the greatest - but the Steel Drum band was great. We went offsite one night to Margaritaville - for the time and cost involved, we would not recommend it. The best thing to do is hook up with a group of people and make the best of the night.
Excursions - We only did the Zip Line excursion - it was a thrill - would absolutely recommend it!
Food - Everyone we talked to said the Italian place was AWFUL, so we never tried it. Bubba's was the best, followed by the Creole and Asian restaurants. The dinner buffet was good too. The sushi was AWFUL.
If the service had been better, I think we would have left with a better feeling about the Grand Palladium. The GP is only a year old - which is surprising....it is beautiful, just don't look with a close eye.
