“Great Trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Six of us traveled the week of January 23 through January 30, 2013. We had a really awsome time the whole week! We loved the resort, food was good and plentiful. We were treated very well by all the staff and they were very friendly. We were in bulding 20, 22, and 15. The rooms and grounds were very clean. None of us minded walking as we were never in a hurry to get anywhere.

We hired Ranger to drive us around 3 different days and he showed us many things we would never have encounterd on our own. We felt very safe with him.

We would all love to go back!

Travelled to the Grand Palladium in December 2012 with a very large group. The resort itself was huge. The pool area was really nice. Drinks were good...defintely watered down...but good. Really enjoyed the Italian A La Carte Restaurant, wasn't crazy about the Seafood one. Buffet was also good, liked the option of sitting outside to eat.
Rooms were really big. Also like the Sports Bar and the Disco.

This was our first time in Jamaica and this resort is fantastic. We were the guests of friends that were members of the Travel Club so the perks provided were exceptional. We stayed in a junior suite on the Lady Hamilton side. At first we had thought the a/c was running low, but this seems to be the norm and you actually acclimate during your stay. The travel club with wifi was handy and those patties...:)

The food is decent (authentic Jamaican jerk is the highlight) and Jamaica's water filtration system ensures the water is safe and drinkable. The breakfast buffets had everything - oh those potato cakes and the bacon...mmmmm! The restaurants were generally good. Everyone has their favourites.

The shows at night were amazing. The "People of Palladium" aka "POPs" work hard to entertain. The shows are well choreographed and enjoyable for all ages. They were all so fit that we felt so encouraged to visit the gym most mornings. The equipment is ok-some cardio equipment, weights, machines...typical equipment that has some wear and needs a bit of TLC. Overall, it was clean and properly staffed (thanks Triple X!).

We visited the Spa a couple times for massages which were wonderful. The little perks they provide are much appreciated. The hydrotherapy pools, sauna and steam are open to all guests and are a nice treat for those who want a break from the typical poolside ritual.

From the maintenance crew, the buffet staff, house keeping, lifeguards, all the wait staff- everyone was friendly and attentive. The staff in every sector of this resort seemed to work hard and always had a smile on their faces. The main pool is huge, but since we didn't have children with us we were mainly at the adult pool. The bar staff - Ricardo, Marvin, Gavin, Lincott and Junior. Thanks for the great service and entertainment! The lifeguards, Kenroy and Lucas - thank you for watching over us!

Watch out for the sea urchins at the adult beach and ensure you try the jerk chicken at Sunset Cove. Yes, parts of the beaches are rocky, but surely you will find someplace to make your own. Sunset Cove is your best bet for a sandy beach and with the main pool that enormous, there are plenty of seats available.

Yes, we had a great holiday. Weather was fabulous - at times a bit windy, but it was hot so we didn't mind the breeze. A wide variety of food available at all times, flowing drinks, great service, a beautiful and clean resort with drinkable water. What more could one ask for, besides for more time?

Room Tip: Select the top floor, beach side and eat as many patties and potato cakes as you can muster :)

This apparently is the biggest resort in Jamaica and with all the walking we did I believe it. We were housed in building 18, which is the furthest building from the main part of the resort. When we checked in they took us there by cart and told us if we need a ride (24 Hours) to call for a pick-up. At first it was not a problem we would casually walk to the main building and back, but by day 3 this was getting a little much and after a night of drinking almost impossible. The carts were rarely around or full of people checking in or out and calling them meant waiting for 15 minutes. The rooms were large with a hot tub, the A/C had difficulty keeping the room cool, especially if you couldn’t keep the A/C on due to having to take your key card with you. The décor was dated, the room was musty smelling and the bedspread had some stains, we woke up in the morning to find coffee but no coffee maker (it was too far to walk for a coffee) so we had to wait until we went for breakfast. We found out later building 18 only gets used when the resort was full. Apparently it hasn’t been full for a while. To the resorts credit a call resolved some of these problems.
There is one main pool which is clean and massive plenty of lounge chairs for everyone, two smaller pools were quiet and nice if you wanted to read a book. The beach by the pool was small and undesirable, but if you walk to another area about 25 min from building 18 the beach is large with plenty of chairs. Unfortunately the warning at the beach was about stingrays in the sand which again was a turn off.
The variety of drinks was plenty full and the food was above average, the entertainment in the main bar was entertaining, but stay away from the sports bar, service was slow and the bar was dungy.
All in all it’s a nice resort, when you live in Canada 28 degrees in January is still awesome.

Room Tip: Stay away from building 18

The food, staff and amenties were great, but the resort was way too big for us. When we are on vacation, we do not want ot have to walk quite a distance to get to the main section, which is where all the amenties are located. For the last 2 days of our vacation we called for shuttles to take us from our room and back!! There isn't much of a beach, but there is a gigantic pool. The room was wonderful, as long as you are a couple, there isn't much privacy when using the bathroom facilities.

Room Tip: ASk for buildings 11 - 15 or 22 - 25

Greetings!

Thank you very much for sharing with us your review. We welcome the feedback of you, our valued guest, as it will better assist us in improving on the present product that we have. We do have a very large property which is enjoyed for its landscaping, but as you have stated, we do have shuttles which can transport guests around the property who do not wish to walk.

Our Main Pool is the largest on the island, and our Resort not only has one beach, but three beaches which are natural sanctuaries for corals and marine life, perfect for snorkelling.

We are happy that you were pleased with the accommodations as our rooms are equipped to make our guests feel right at home.

We would love to host you again in the near future as it was our pleasure having you with us on this visit. Until then, best wishes.

I wanted to write a review because I have read some of the negative ones and can't believe what some people are complaining about. This place was awesome. I have traveled to 3 other all inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean so I have some thing to compare this to.

Check in - as smooth as it possibly could be. Took less than 20 minutes to get our entire group of 20 people checked in and delivered to our rooms.

Rooms - standard all inclusive two double bed room. The bed and pillows were very firm, but personally that's how I'd prefer mine.

Food - the food was fantastic, best I've had at a resort. I am a vegetarian so sometimes my choices are limited, but every single a la carte had a separate vegetarian menu for me to choose from. Loved that!!

Drinks - standard, strong, plentiful.

Service - some was better than others, tipping does help (although I was never once asked for a tip like some reviews have mentioned). When I received good service I was happy to give a couple of dollars. We had the same gentlemen serve us breakfast every morning (Romaine - awesome guy) and the same server at the Infinity bar every night (Jean).

Entertainment - pretty standard. Dance lessons, sports, trivia, competitions during the day. Shows at night. There was also the choice of going to the infinity bar for some sort of live entertainment if you don't enjoy the shows. The entertainment staff by the pool were awesome, tried to get as many people involved as possible. I guess if you just want to lay by the pool in silence this wouldn't be the place for you.

This is quite a large resort, if you have mobility issues I wouldn't recommend it. They do have little buggy's driving around if you do need assistance.

Anyways, overall my group had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend this resort to others.

Room Tip: If you want to be near the action choose villas 11-15. We were in 21 and it was quite a walk every d...

We have read many useful reports on Trip Advisor so we thought it only fair to share our views on the Grand Palladium. Our first trip to Jamaica and for us, it certainly ticked all the boxes, but you will never ever please everyone. Check-in was seamless with the offer of a rum cocktail and cold flannel. The resort is wonderfully clean, all the staff are incredibly polite, rooms are spacious (we stayed in a Junior Suite) and cleaned everyday. The buffet restaurant has something to suit all appetites however, we only ate evening meal in there once as the A La'Carte restaurants are first class. We never had to wait very long for a table and there was always the option of having a drink at the bar while you waited. There are 6 or 7 themed restaurants; our favourite was the Oriental. We tipped at dinner but never felt compelled to tip at any other time. When ordering your dollars, I would recommend asking for a few one dollar bills.

January is a nice time of the year to go. Weather in the high twenties with a nice breeze. Resort is not full so there were plenty of quiet areas to be found.

We took the tip of taking a couple of plastic beakers with us for when we sat around the pool and beach. This proved useful as the plastic cups served at the bar are quite small.

Entertainment was varied and of a good standard. We listened to some fantastic musicians and enjoyed the dance performances.

The Spa is of a very high standard, it's just a shame that the treatments are on the pricey side. What was good was the complimentary use of the steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and pool. There is a small gym with an average selection of equipment that could do with updating.

One evening a week the resort has several craft sellers displaying their wares - good selection of gifts and bartering is a must.

The negative point for us were the overpriced excursions. We visited Dunnes River Falls which was a wonderful experience but overpriced. A guide takes a DVD of your climb up the Falls and several photos - this they then try to sell at $40!! It's a good 2 - 2 and a half hour drive so take some water with you. Lunch is not included so we made up a couple of rolls at breakfast. Ignore the reps saying you need to buy water shoes as trainers or velcroed flip flops are more than adequate.

We would definitely return in a few years.

Room Tip: We were in block 27. Majority of time it was very quiet - not all neighbours are considerate though.
