“No Problem Mon. Very relaxing, care free vacation----3.5”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

My boyfriend and I returned from the Grand Palladium-Jamaica resort last week. We had a very nice time. This was our first time to Jamaica and we left with a great impression. We arrived to the resort with welcome drinks awaiting us.(about 45 mins from the airport) The resort is beautiful. It is kept up so well and clean. We were very impressed with how 5 star it looked. Our check in went rather quickly as well. From the minute we arrived, the staff was very friendly and more than willing to help us. AND, we were never once bothered with travel time share people. We were driven to our room via golf-like cart and we immediately noticed the resort was HUGE.

We stayed in villa 23 which was perfect for us. Just the right amount of walking to get everywhere. All the better for us, we didn't care what we ate/drank. The walking was a work out everyday. (Plus it was right next to the Relax Pool/Roselle Bar) Our room was on the 2nd level and we were impressed with it. Every room has a balcony, a very nice bathroom with jacuzzi tub and was nice all around. Every room has a mini fridge that is restocked every day- included. The rooms are cleaned daily, we never really knew what time it was going to happen though. It was usually after lunch and closer to getting ready for dinner time, however it was not an issue for us. We had not problem hanging out at the beach/pool all day :) NO PROBLEM MON!!

That first night we went to the beach party dinner which had plenty of food to choose from. The food overall is ok. Nothing to really brag about. The a la carte restaurants were nothing to brag about either. It is FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. They open at about 530 and if you are not there early enough you could be waiting for an hour+. We tried the Mexican, which was the best; the Asian which was better, the steak house, which was ok and the Italian, not so good at all. There were 30 people ahead of us sometimes and thankfully, there were many bars to hang out at until our reservation was called.NO PROBLEM MON!! The buffet restaurants were perfectly fine for us. There was such a wider array of food to choose from than the a la carte restaurants, plus there was never a wait. We went to the buffets for breakfast and lunch everyday and there was plenty to choose from. Its nothing spectacular, but it is, we think, better than the a la carte restaurants. The Sports bar/restaurant has food all day/night which is good too. So for you party all nigthers- you wont go hungry :) DELROY is the best bartender there. We had so much fun with him. Thanks for all the rum punch. DELROY!!! OWEN is also good there. both are very accommodating and fun.

Throughout the day there is always someplace open to eat. The jerk chicken hut is the big hit which is on the lady hamilton side of the resort which is also where the less corally beach is. Def try it out. It is quite a walk to get there if you are coming from the Jamaica side.

All of the staff is very friendly and says hi every time they see you. day and night.

We tended to hang out at the bars most often. Our favorite had to be the Infinity Lobby bar. At night they have a live band and singer. They are GREAT entertainment. Feel free to get up and dance!! it is encouraged! There is also a cigar section open for a few hours as well right there. This bar is just a great atmosphere and very comfortable at night. JEAN is the best bartender at this bar. Her special drink is quite tasty. She is so kind and just a pleasure to hang with at the bar. During the day my boyfriend was a big fan of the swim up bar as well as the Las Brisas Bar next to the pool. ---This is also where daily activities take place, which are quite fun-- volleyball. salsa lessons. games etc.

** all the bartenders have a "special" drink. If you can't think of anything, go for their special. it is 8 times out of 10, GREAT.** If you want a shot instead, you have to the try the BOB MARLEY. OWEN made the best one for us, lets just say its STRONG, colorful and includes flames!!!

A hidden gem of the resort is the SPA. Most people think you have to pay extra for everything there, but that is not the case. (just massages, nails, waxing etc) They have an inifnity pool/lazy river, a really warm smaller pool with a little water fall like thing there, as well as 2 jacuzzi hot tubs, a sauna and a steam room. All at no extra cost. It is much, much quieter and relaxed here. It is also ADULTS only. We spent time there, once we found out about it, every day. We met a man who works there, WILLIS. He is absolutely amazing. He is one of the most accommodating, kind and hard working people we met at the resort. **Be aware, for the most part, the more you tip, the better service you get** WILLIS was the opposite, however. He worked, not for tips, (he doesn't really get offered tips, because he is mostly an upkeep employee) but because he needs to work and its his job. With or without tips, WILLIS is a great, hard worker. We had such a great time with him. He was a big reason we wanted to keep hanging out at the spa for a bit everyday. His smile is contagious! Thank you WILLIS, for everything. You made our vacation very memorable.

We went on three excursions which made our trip that much better. Dunns River (2 hours away), ZIpLining (about 45- one hour away) and Swimming with Dolphins (3 minutes away)---- so, so fun. We went through the agency on the bottom level of the lobby Jamaica side. We got great deals, but be prepared to shell out at least a few hundred for 2 people for at least 3 excursions. For us, it was totally worth it. We went the first three days of our trip (1/2 day) which was perfect because the rest of our trip was spent relaxing, hanging out, swimming, eating and having a ball.

The beaches at this resort are somewhat small. There are two beaches, the one a walk down from the pool and the Sunset Cove beach (Lady Hamilton side) which is where you will actually see people in the water because there is far less coral there. The water is glorious though. It was beautiful and once you're in, it feels wonderful. Negril is the place to go if you really want to hang out the beach. There are day trips available.

The pool was beautiful/spectacular. It is HUGE. They have in water lounge chairs and plenty of space to fit so many people. It is so big, i never once saw it totally filled. It doesn't get too crazy finding a chair until around 9-10 am. There is plenty of space for everyone but if you want a chair right next to the pool, its better to get out there earlier than later. Even to just leave a towel on the chair. If you don't want to be right in the sun, there are plenty of tiki hut like umbrellas around the area to shade you from the sun and just relax. The Blue Lagoon bar/restaurant is outdoors/overlooking the pool which is rather nice/pretty to eat at.

Overall, we had a great time. I'm not sure we would def go back to this resort, but Jamaica is a place we would love to travel to again. We met plenty of people who have come to the GP more than once, they love it so much. There is plenty to do there, or not do-- it is very relaxing. It is not really the type of place for spring breakers. We didn't see any at all--- we went one of the weeks of spring break. There is not much of a crazy wild scene going on here. There is a dance club, but we never saw it packed. We ran in to families and couples, mostly-- which was perfectly fine for us. The staff as well as the patrons were all quite wonderful and welcoming. We are happy with our vacation and came home with many great stories to tell and wonderful memories.

** bring quite a few $1 to tip. You will NEED it. I know it is all inclusive, but the staff really does work hard. and there are some really deserving staff people and you'll want to have some money to tip. **

Its Jamaica, all about no problems. just situations. It was a great way for us to unwind and slow things down. I never once knew what time it was, and that was priceless. I recommend this resort for families, couples and people who don't mind walking, a lot. The resort is beautiful and offers a lot. I would have to give it a solid 3.5-- the staff are a huge reason for the success of this resort. For the price, you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: If you don't like walking much, ask for a room closer to the main entrances of the resort. You w...

Stayed here at the grand palladium for 6 days recently and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Jamaica as a vacation destination.
Grand palladium was good but left some to be desired eeking out those last 2 of 5 stars.

The good:
The property was beautiful, well kept, and HUGE. Easy to get lost but lot's on site.
The rooms were also very beautiful and spacious with a tub jacuzzi, nice tile shower, premium tv channels.
The staff was generally very friendly and helpful. Plenty in reception and bar areas.
The food at the pasta restaurant and snacks/coffee at miss lou bar were great. night entertainment outside of miss lou was also fun.
The pool is beautiful, clean, and spacious.

The bad:
The restaurant's are clearly understaffed even though you can see they are working hard.

The Asian restaurant and buffet left something to be desired. Asian food was only OK, and service was slow. We normally eat a lot of Asian food but decided not to return.
Restaurant scheduling was not staggered. If you wanted a late breakfast or early dinner you are SOL or you can have bar-food. (who pays for a 5 star resort to get bar food?). Breakfast ends at 1030am and lunch starts at noon. If you sleep in go straight to breakfast.

There are 10 unique restaurants on property, but what they don't tell you is that they are not all open at the same time. Several of them seem staggered (like creole one night and steakhouse the next). The rest closed for no reason, or a private event (like a wedding)
There are 2 breakfast buffet's on property, but only 1 was open for our stay as it appeared the other was being renovated. I found their menu stagnant and lacking in enough local fresh foods, they mostly had American comfort foods. If you were to go to an inexpensive buffet, this would be on par. Unfortunately this is also where many of our meals were eaten. Anywhere we wanted to eat was either closed that night or overpacked, and there was no real way to tell in advance.

Bars there had no top shelf selections (or even non domestic name brand) and they were not overly equipped to make every drink like a normal nightclub bar but the bartenders were not cheap on booze and had great drinks,

The rooms had paper thin walls, I could hear chairs moving as if it was in our own, and the hallways are open across all floors turning every door and screaming child into a megaphone event. Do not expect to sleep past 8am, and expect to wake up with a neck ache.
The pillow and bedding quality is far sub par, below that of the cheapest motel I have seen. I never knew pillows could be that flat and hard (no joke!).
The air conditioning is controlled by a room card when you arrive, so it is off when you leave. This would not be an issue if it was adequately sized to cool the room off quickly and make the room cold. I found I could not turn the temperature down below around 74f, and slept above my sheets feeling sticky most nights. We learned to leave one of our room keys in the slot at all times during the day so the room was usable in the evening.
A lot of "green" focus for the hotel which is a great spin towards cost savings.

I have stayed in resorts that cost twice as much, and rooms that you would fear. Overall I would peg this place an average 3 to 3.5 out of 5 stars. If all restaurants were staffed more appropriately, open each night, and the bedding quality was improved I would easily bump up an additional star. We got a really cheap last minute deal, so you get what you pay for. For the money we paid I can only complain so much.

Room Tip: Consider upgrading over Junior suite to more private bungalow

If you want a good vacation, don't stay at this place. You will regret it! The location and the surroundings are nice, however, the staff will make sure that you have the worst experience! The food is bad, cleanliess of the rooms is bad, but more than anything, any time that you interact with the staff, the will make sure that you are treated like the least important person in the world! Go somewhere in Mexico, and forget about going to Jamaica!

Room Tip: Stay close to the villa

Travelled in a group of 6 July/August last year and we all had a fab time with no complaints.
The main pool is massive! There was always plenty of sunbeds and towels and never felt busy. Pool bar was great especially as it was so hot..quick dip in the pool and a pina colada..perfect! As we were there during hurricane season when the weather turned we would head over to the spa and chill out around the pool there.
We tried all the beaches but loved sunset cove the best, lovely warm water and jerk chicken hut was amazing.
Tried all the restaurants besides the Indian (personal choice) and enjoyed them all, especially loved the Jamaican restaurant. They staff in there were great. Sports bar had a great atmosphere too and was the place we always went to for lunch or to grab a snack.
We had villa 11 in jamaica side which was close to everything but the resort is rather large if you are unused to walking so much. Our room was cleaned everyday and mini-fridge re-stocked. The bath and bed were huge. Only issue was my hair straighteners didnt work due to different voltage.
We never went to the evening shows as we would go for dinner at this time. The entertainment in the Infinity bar was great, watching the dancers and the steel drum band playing rihanna and other popular songs was fab to watch. Also went to the 'nightclub', some nights was busy others dead. Went into the casino as well, which was ok.
During our 2 weeks here we done 3 trips, Dunns River Falls which was around 2hour drive from the resort but would defenitely recommend. Ricks Cafe, again around a 2hour drive but was great to watch the cliff jumpers and soak in the vibe. Also went to Bob Marleys Masoleum which was 3.5/4hours away from the resort, I loved this trip because you got to experience a more traditional Jamaican lifestyle and see the countryside and up into the hills.
Overall we all loved this hotel and had nothing to complain about. Would without a doubt return to this hotel when we come back to the beautiful Jamaica. Please remember the staff here work extremly hard and long hours for very poor pay.

This was our third trip to Jamaica and our second stay at the Palladium. The resort is absolutely gorgeous and the grounds/buildings are always being up kept. It is a very big resort and plan to WALK. The beach is ok, rocky more like Maine but pretty sunsets and plenty of palapas and lounge chairs. No vendors!
There was live entertainment in the Infinity Bar every night. The theater shows were typical resort entertainment.
f you can't find something you'll eat in the buffet, you are a fussy eater. The ala carte restaurants are a change from the daily buffet meals. We liked the Italian and Asian best.
The staff makes the resort special. They are always ready to help and are lovely and fun. We always felt that they wanted us to relax & enjoy. If you wanted to be left alone, it was easy to do. It is not much of a young people party place, more families and couples.
Was it perfect? Is any place? Yes, there was a tile off our bathroom wall and a small tear in the screen to the balcony. Sometimes we sat an extra minute to wait for service. We actually called the bell service twice when it was time to checkout. None of this ruined our vacation. Jamaica has a special magic and some of it involves a sense of slowing down, un-plugging and "no problem" You might want a smaller boutique hotel or a more expensive choice but we believe the Palladium is a great value.

Room Tip: spring for the ocean view room..so worth it!

Me and my husband just returned from our vacation at the grand palladium last week! We had the most amazing time. This resort is wonderful. It was hard coming back to reality once we left. I went on vacation 5 years ago to jamaica and my experience wasn't very good. I was kind of hesitant to go back to jamaica. But after staying at the grand palladium and touring negril and ricks cafe I will be returning again very soon. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation. All of the negative reviews are from the "think I'm better than everyone else" people. Do not believe any of the negative reviews. Better yet don't even read them if you see less than a 4 star rating! The resort is huge and gives you so much to do. There are plenty of activities going on through out the day to keep you busy or if you want to soak up the sun (like I did) there are so many places to do that. My favorite restaurant on the resort is the Italian restaurant. The salad bar there was outstanding! Make sure to get to any of the restaurants before 6:30 in order to get a table right away. Otherwise you could be waiting an hour and half or so unless you have reservations! I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Ask to stay in Villa 12. Close enough to all the restaurants and bars but far enough not to hear the...
