Kaslo is right on the lake in the Kootenay area of B.C. Lotsa lakes, lotsa mountains, lotsa wildlife, lotsa friendly, laidback people, ferries, windy roads, bike riders, hikers, kayakers.
The hostel is at the lower end of the town. It is a little hard to find just because the sign is overhung with some kind of vine. But anyone in town can direct you to it. It's walking distance from the main street and restaurants, or cafes and the lake' s beach.
It is very, very clean. Way better than some motels along that route. There are family rooms as well as bunks for groups and beds for couples. The usual hostel deal. No towels. The owners have a massive veggie garden and can chat about anything in the area to sightsee.
The breakfast in the Golf Club is wonderful for the fabulous scenery over the lake and mountains and is okay for value. There is better food in any of the cafe style eateries downtown.
There is NO PUB!
You have to go further around the lake to the Marina to get booze and some pretty good tucker. About 2km. Another spectacular view point.
