My husband and I booked two nights in this hotel with a special magazinepromotion of " charming hotels". The lobby looks inviting and the hotel staff is very friendly and efficient.
The location is charming, but the hotel corridors and rooms are far from charming; they even have a hospital feeling about them.
The room was clean, but the furniture in the room is spartan and outdated and there is no decoration on the walls. There are 2 single beds which are put together. The bedside lamps are relics from the 70's and the pillows are not comfortable. There is however a second set of pillows in the cupboard, and that made sleeping the second night better.
The central heating doesn't have a thermostat, it can just be turned on or off.
The bathroom has a separate bath and shower, but no thermostatic taps; you need to adjust the temperature of the water by mixing the hot and cold water yourself. There are no amenities in the bathroom, just two walldispensers with cream wich is suitable for showers and baths.
We didn't understand how this hotel, which is part of the Fletcher chain, was rated with 4 stars.
The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a seaside ambiance, due to the striped wallpaper.. There is an ample choices of tasty items at the breakfast buffet.
We chose the suggested menu for dinner, but that was only average. The drinks were rather expensive.
We had a more tasty and cosy dinner at Bluf restaurant (www.blufrestaurant.nl) which is nearby (5 minutes drive).
There's also a smal indoor pool in the hotel.
TIP : if you plan to go to Nijmegen by bus nr 8, it is advisable to buy a dayticket (5 euro) at the reception of the hotel. To encourage the use of the OV chipcard on public transport (which is a lot cheaper, but only interesting if you plan on using the public transport for several days) , the price of the one way tickets you buy on the bus is 3 EURO !!!
Parking at the Dutch Open Air Museum in Arnhem (www.openairmuseum.nl) costs 4,5 euro, and parking at the Burgers Zoo in Arnhem (www.burgerszoo.nl) costs 4 euro.
The Africa Museum is within walking distance of the hotel (less than 1 km).
The hotel was ideally located for the museums and places we wanted to visit, but in our opinion it is only an avarage hotel.
