“My 2nd visit to this garden paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012

Stayed and fallen in love with this garden paradise since 2 years ago. This time around, everything looks the same as before. Beautiful, serene and very close to nature and cooler than before. There're still the beautiful flowers and plants, the ever-flowing stream which providethe hard-working and ever-smiling Thai workers, be it cleaners, gardeners, receptionists, massage ladies,.... This place is ideally suited for family-bonding, for loving couple and nature loving people but not for shoppers as there no shops around. There are 2 swimming pools, a sauna, a massage/spa, a gym and a restaurant in the resort. The outside temperature was 20+decgree C during the day fell to around 15 degree C at night.

We chose to stay in the same 2-bedroom villa which we stayed 2 years ago. Expecting it to have degraded over the 2 years, we were surprised to find the place maintained as clean as before and a better sofa set in the living room. The unit has a full kitchen with utensils and crockery. To my children's delight, this villa has a BBQ facilility in the backyard. The villa has 2 airconditioned bedroom and living and dining area naturally ventilated. The heaters in the bathroom are old type and needs to wait for some time for hot water to flow out.

Living with nature will always have its natural problem. The windows are fully covered with tiny netting. As long as the nettings are closed, no mosquitoes can enter the unit. In my 6 days of stay, I only found one mosquito a few black ants in the unit. Insecticides are available from the cleaners but it is good to bring some ant poison if you are afraid of ants.

The food price at the resort restaurant are on higher end. Should Should you need to eat at a cheaper nearby restaurant, the reception can arranged for you with complimenenary free 2 way transport.

The nearest supermarket is about 30 minutes by car and if you like to do some cooking and city sight seeing, you need to do some planning. Transport is available at B1600 for 10 hours with driver, for anytime, mornining to afternnon or noon to night. Having visited most of the place in Chiang Mai, we arranged our trips to Lampang and Lamphun for only B2200.

If you are nature-lovers, this place is paradise - clean, refreshing, relaxing and far from the maddening crowd. No doubt, I will be back here in a couple of years.

We stayed Dec 11-15, 2012. On arrival to Chiang Mai, we took a taxi to Belle Villa, the Taxi driver was great and offered to take us around Chiang Mai to see the sights. 1500 bht / day
When we arrived at Belle Villa, we were immediately amazed by the kind and helpful staff.
We asked about the shuttle bus, about twice a day the bus picks you up and takes you into centre of chiang mai.
If I can give any advice it would be to always have your own driver, it will save headaches and money. The " red trucks" and tuk tuks, make commision on where you go, so you'll be driven around all day to places you had intention on going to and you'll end up being harrassed to buy stuff everywhere You go. Side note they wont take you back to Belle Villa because it's "too far". yet half these "sights" are further away than Belle Villa.

Anyways back to the point:
We stayed in a deluxe, king size bed room 2nd floor, it was clean, no ants, weird smells or stains. Belle Villa is an older building that needs a few small upgrades and maintenance. When we spoke to the locals they say " ohhhh 5 stars". It is a Thailand 5 stars, and I don't think people understand that its a different standard of living.
Be thankful for the price your paying what your getting.
Dining room indoor didn't use because why would I when the weathers perfect. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner on the outdoor patio, roof covered.
Breakfast free buffet, come early for freshness 6:30-10:00 am
Lunch western food not good, but why did you come to Thailand to eat Western food.
All thai dishes are good, if you require any changes to you meal e.g. Nut allergy they are accompdating.
If you want your plate taken away just ask or move your plate to the side. Some staff are trained in fine dining, others not so much.
Prices are fair, water 20 bht, pop/soda 50 bht
Average meal 150- 200 bht

Always say thank you after they give anything to you or you converse with them, the service will improve.

Pools were clean, a little cool after sunrise, but it's no canadian lake.

All the best have a good trip!

We rented a house a Belle Villa for about $700 USD/month during our first year of living in Thailand. It's on the warm side of the mountain -- the other side is 7-9 degrees Celsius cooler -- but everything else is perfect: pool, restaurant, service, food, bar, etc. A really romantic and comfortable spa located about 30 minutes outside downtown Chiang Mai.

Room Tip: Ask about third party rental from people who own townhouses and rent them out. They're all on t...

If you are looking for a 4 or 5 star western-style and western-standard property this is not the place for you. If you want to be in central Chiang Mai, or within walking distance of Chiang Mai this is not the place for you.

If you want to stay in a peaceful location (40 kms from central Chiang Mai) outside of the noise and traffic of Chiang Mai then you should consider staying here. We stayed here for a week in a 2-bedroom home as part of a timeshare program. We arranged through the resort for a car to pick us up from the airport for (600 Baht), and they stopped at a small market (Tesco) on the way to the resort where we bought a few breakfast items.

We arranged for a scooter for a the week and rode this to and from Chiang Mai and other sites. You can park a scooter anywhere while a car is much more difficult to park and traffic in Chiang Mai can be heavy at times. You can easily book transport through the resort and hotel if you are not interested in a scooter, and they can also assist with booking site seeing trips for you as well.

The property has a swimming pool, spa, restaurant and free Wi-Fi is available in the hotel lobby and pool area. We visited the pool a few times although did not eat at the restaurant as there were good choices in the nearby villages. Do not be afraid to dine at any of the village restaurants - the food is fresh, good quality, safe and very inexpensive - and you will dine overlooking the beautiful scenery of the village. The village also has a few shops for basic items as well.

Whenever we had questions or needed assistance the staff were happy to assist and provide information.

I cannot agree more with Sythe, in fact, I should have read this review before going there (I could have at least bought ant poison (does that work on croaches? cause we had some in the kitchen as well). We signed up for a week (Mid May 2012) with Royal Club but, could not last for more than 2 days. The surroundings are stunning and the gardens are really pretty, but the cottages are dark, no aircon in the living room, the kitchen was not as clean as one would expect... the hood extractor did not work (and no proper ventilation either) and ants, ants everywhere. The restaurant was the worst part... we were excited to try Thai treats... and what a disappointment, the quality of the food is really bad - and pricey. We moved out as soon as we could get our hands on the sole computer available to look for alternatives in town. WiFi in the restaurant area is free but as slow as a snail. However, I must say that the staff is very friendly. If you are going there, please think again how many days you'll stay here, this is for no more than 2 nights.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

Stayed here between Friday 6th-Friday 13th April 2012, finally gave up and checked out on Tuesday 10th.

The place is initially breathtaking and very beautiful. The gardens are very well maintained and everything looks great - I'd recommend staying here for a night or 2 nights - not a week. We arranged an airport pickup from the hotel, and after waiting for it for an hour had to take a taxi as it never showed up.

The place is about an hour away from Chiang Mai airport / downtown area. The book that comes in the room says there are trips every Saturday, Sunday and Monday into Chiang Mai - however when we tried to book to go on the shopping trip on Saturday morning they told us since no one had shown any interest they had cancelled the trip - which left us scratching our heads. We then tried to have the hotel drive us into town (at 600 Baht each way, 1200 Baht total - just under US$40) but were told that the hotel only had 1 car and that it was already busy, effectively leaving us stuck in the hotel - we walked around the resort and surrounding areas but there's really not a lot to do there other than "relax". The "free of charge" daily shuttle reported by Josgreet in a review here is not the case - not once were we able to hitch a ride into town with the hotel.

The manageress of the hotel that we encountered was very difficult to contact, with many hours of the day the concierge office being completely closed.

So being stuck in the resort left us with not much to do other than use the pool, bar, spa and the room itself.

We had a cottage provided to us via Royal Resorts. The hotel on RCI is known as Royal Bella resort, yet it's called belle villa - caused a few confusions. There are 3 English TV channels (HBO, ESPN and Discovery channel). We ordered room service and had to complain a full 2 days later when no one had been to collect the dirty dishes outside of our room. There is also a significant ant problem, and on our first morning (after first night) we killed literally over a thousand ants in our bathroom and out to the front door, the wall was literally moving with so many of them. The bedrooms had functioning and well working A/C's, one room had a safe in the closet but it had no power and was so useless and the beds were like concrete wrapped in a sheet - very uncomfortable, after 5 nights we literally could not take it any more. There is no wifi in the villa/cottage we were in, but there was free wifi in the restaurant area in the main hotel lobby area.

There is a nice swimming pool, but it is dirty and was never cleaned while we were there (leaves and dead bugs in the water - not a lot but enough to detract from enjoying being in the pool for any great length of time). There is a Sauna there, but incredibly, you have to pay 100 Baht to use it - assuming you can find any staff who know how to turn them on.

The spa is the shining light of the place - a little expensive at 350 Baht (in town a 1hr Thai massage is 200-250 Baht) but very relaxing. No funny stuff at all and the staff are very knowledgeable in their craft.

The hotel restaurant and bar, while offering an extensive selection of food and drink, was very expensive (a dinner consisting of 2 starters and 2 mains will run you around 1600 Baht - in town this would be around 800 Baht). Now, I can get over the price of the food and drink as it's still what I'd call "affordable" but the quality of the food is most certainly nothing to get excited about - I'd read other reviews on this website where people had raved about the food here, I must share that I totally disagree with those reviews - the food was average at best, and there was no Pho or Pad Thai even on the menu!

There are 2 elephants that live in the hotel grounds, and you can buy elephant rides on them for 250 Baht, and you can feed them etc - quite nice to see them walking around the place.

If you are looking for a place to get away from everything - then this is not so bad, just bring ant poison, lots of cash for the restaurant/bar and lots of books to read and you'll have a nice time - it really is peaceful and out of the way. We were hoping to relax here in the evenings after spending the days in town shopping or touring - which was not the case due to the simply atrocious transportation situation with the hotel. And the beds left our backs hurting.

We spent 7 days in Belle Villa resort , arranged through royal Exchange Bali. the resort is loacted in a valley surrounded by thick forested mountain. the beauty of the place is that 2 mountain water streams are flowing through it. On one evening iit overflowed and we had to cross it by wooden bridge . The maintenance is good and the food served in restaurant was up to the mark. The spa is reasonably managed .Swimming pool and other facilities are well attended.
The only disadvantage , if you may call it ,is the distance from main chiang mai is approx 40 minutes drive. Conveyance is available on payment. The staff are friendly and always willing to assist you.
The scenic beauty of the place will keep you mesmerized .

Room Tip: all cottages are comparable and nothing to choose between these.
