Stayed with my husband for a Saturday night in weekend in Mid-May.
•Clean building and rooms with efficient level of refreshment and amenities
•Receptionist (brunet lady) needs to learn how to smile to the customers and pay attention to the customers. Any new customers arrived whilst she was doing something, she did not even look at them so all customers needs to wait her to finish whatever she does. This is very uncomfortable moments.
•Originally given room 8, which was fine until dinner time, VERY loud noise of kitchen fan disturbed our stay. Luckily we could get our room changed, but we couldn’t believe the fact they accommodate paying guests to the room. Totally unbearable level of noise. Have the any staff ever stayed in the room to check??
•No newspapers at all in lounge for breakfast. They should know such a small “customer care” could make a big difference.
We tried dinner
•We enjoyed bar nibble “whitebait” very much
•Beef carpaccio was ok, I enjoyed it. But I wouldn’t serve the truffle oil in a dipping pot, but it might be because I ordered the dish as without horseradish.
•Burger and chips were perfectly cooked, well seasoned. We enjoyed.
•Space between each table was kept very comfortable level. Good atmosphere.
•Good floor, not echoing noises.
•We waited it for approx 30 minutes for the bar nibble whitebait. We reminded the waitress (the receptionist without smile) when she came to take our food order, she seemed to be completely forgotten. Again, proving there is no care/attention for customers, the excuse was “the check (paper) was behind other papers.” There were only 2 groups, we and the others,,,
•Artichoke salad = they seemed to forgot to put dressing. Because the waitress did not come to check how the foods were, we couldn’t not mention it until when she came for taking plates. My husband said to her “I think that the chef forgot to put the dressing”, she said “really?” then back to the kitchen, nothing after that… no apology, no correction, We even doubted that she reported it back to the kitchen.
•Wild mushroom risotto = first of all, the mushroom was not wild mushroom I thought it would be (not the season, anyway?). Just normal oyster mushroom, maybe a small shimeji mushroom, and the button mushrooms. You can get them from waitrose/sainsbury’s, they sold them as exotic mushroom, etc. and the risotto was a great disappointment. I don’t think they stir rice enough, but only boiled. As when you eat the rice, all water came out. Thus no rich taste of risotto. I love risotto and have tried in the many places, this is the worst I have ever tried.
•They put the cheap table salt and papper pots on the table. I thought this was a restaurant owned by enthusiastic chef, not a chip shop. What is a harm to put proper salt & pepper mill on each table?
•Ketchup. When my husband asked a ketchup, it was served in half labled jam pot. I even doubt if the pot was washed properly, as the half label was still on the jar… this told us everything about this place.
•Bar, hotel reception, restaurant floor staff were all done by one person (the lady who did not smile). This means the customer in arrived a bar had to wait while she was serving food, and the foods in the kitchen had to wait until she finishes looking after bar. I think this is to reduce the cost, but this means they don’t care the customers much.
•Breakfast, My croissant (chocolate) was uncooked. I don’t know if the chefs were noticed, but no words about it whatsoever.
•Our very late whitebait was charged twice… when I pointed out, the receptionist (on our check-out) said she couldn’t change it,,, eventually she went to kitchen and came back, she could amend the bill.
don't get room 8 or 9.
room 4 was ok.
