On the recent BH Monday, following an enjoyable but wet hike through the Chilterns, several friends and I had lunch at this out of the way Free House.
It is all that a country pub should be: simple food well served, well kept beer, comfortable, traditionally decorated without being tired, and, best of all, the Red Lion is run by a welcoming and friendly landlady.
The menu is short and comprises simple pub food, but it is excellently home cooking and there is plenty of it.
The Hook Norton beer was superb - CAMRA, how come this place is not on your radar?
Also worth noting is how well locals seem to support support their pub, including several families with well behaved younger children.
The Red Lion seems to succeed in what it sets out to do and is well worth a visit.
