“Reasonably priced Conference Centre Accomodation.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2011

I have utilised this place many times over the last few years due to its proximity to my company UK office.
>Firstly, to be strictly accurate, this is not really a hotel, but more a conference centre and is part of the Institute of Marketing.
>Secondly, it does have 80 rooms, but these are primarily designed and aimed at people attending the residential courses run by the IofM and other organisations who utilise the conference facilities. But, they do open them to the general public, especially as there is a market, with demand for hotel rooms constantly outstripping supply in the Maidenhead area.
This will give background to some of the previous comments that the accommodation is basic , small and more like student accommodation, because frankly it is, due to who the initial target is.
But the pricing is set at the lower level, and although £95 web price may sound a lot for a single room midweek, believe me you will struggle to get anything near as low as this from the standard business hotels in the area.
And if you can negotiate for the £70.00 corporate rate that I paid this week, then this will be almost half what you can achieve from the nearby Crowne Plaza’s and Holiday Inns.
So, to concur, the accommodation is at the lower end , but functional and always clean in my experience.
The service at reception and in the bar area are competent and the breakfast has always been good.
The bar area is functional, with plenty of seating and separate area with snooker table and the beer is usually from the local Rebellion brewery.
And the location is very nice, with the Thames a mere stroll away, and the expensive pubs and restaurants of Cookham High Street just around the corner. And if you intend to eat in one of these, then you should try and save as much money on the accommodation as you can.

Really nice location in the village of Cookham - a bit hard to find (very limteded on signposts ) but once your there your greeted by a welcoming cheerful receptionist - then you have to drive around the centre to the accommodation area (nice grounds - well maintained) - the room (well you can read ALL the reviews they say the same) it was small... well tiny ? l booked a double just for me - l would hate to think what a single room was like (a cupboard ?) - the accommodation was basic and dated in decor - small portable tv with only 4/5 stations - small work desk - tea & coffee - free wifi connection - the bathroom smelled of meldew/damp again very small - towels not that great well passed their sell by date - breakfast was good - served straight away - the tables were cleared and cleaned very quickly - the waiting staff very polite - Cookham is about 15/20 minutes from the major connections for the M4 and M40 motorways - The rooms maybe small but the staff make up for it in a BIG way ?

The good points:
• The hotel is in a quiet location, and I got a good night’s sleep.
• The local beer (Rebellion bitter) in the bar is excellent.
• I really liked the layout of the internal gardens at the hotel.
• I loved playing chess with huge chess pieces on the outdoor chess board

The bad points:
• My bedroom and en-suite was tiny, with very dated décor. It reminded me of cheap student barracks. But it was equipped with all the basics, including a small TV.

I agree with the previous review. Rooms are small for a hotel; about 8ft by 10ft, but more importantly, for us, it was clean. The double bed dipped in the middle a bit and was next to the wall so not the best we've slept in. There is a wardrobe and dressing table/desk, which has a very clever drawer that hides the courtesy tray . Above the bed are some shelves so there is enough storage space if you are on an overnight stop or for a weekend. There were only 4 hangers so take extra if you think you will need them. There's a full length mirror in the room plus a large mirror in the bathroom with a hairdryer. There is a small (portable size) tv in the cupboard above the wardrobe. The rooms were clean, as were the bedding and towels. The bathroom had a bath with a shower over, which was in need of descaling but the grout was ok. The shower curtain was discoloured on the bottom so needed changing. The walls are thin so when my hubby was in the bathroom he could hear our friends talking in the next room - and could actually hear the words spoken, not just a mumbled noise !
The exterior looks impressive with the hotel and conference buildings being set back from the High Street in it's own grounds, with water features and an outdoor patio area. There's also a huge car-park. The receptionist was very friendly and check in/out went smoothly.
Breakfast was buffet style serving a full English, cereals, grapefruit, toast, coffee (various chioces from a machine), tea and fruit juice (from a machine).
The location is perfect for Cookham with the Crown Pub opposite (had a nice lunch overlooking the green) and the shops are literally a few minutes walk away. We had an excellent evening meal in the Cookham Tandoori which it just a couple of minutes walk away too.
We paid £70 for the 2 of us including breakfast and felt this was a good price compared to other hotels in the area.

It is a shame how much the rooms let this venue down as it is in a good location. Rooms are basic and resemble student halls of residence! There are plans for a refurb and not before time as the prices currently are not cheap. The shower was rubbish and had a large build up of limescale on it! It is worth going out to eat though in one of the great restaurants in cookham!

Check in was good staff were very nice and polite, bedrooms are very dated and grubby looking not what you would expect from the outside of the hotel. Bar was modern and again had polite staff, bar menu was not that great could have done with some more options such as more main meals and side orders e.g onion rings and the lack of a decent dessert was a big let down. Whilst eating my meal I was distracted by members of staff gathered around the coffee machine in the bar chatting away for over 20 minutes in Polish even the management were Polish and not exactly polite! Breakfast was good however the overall experience was let down by the lack of English staff. I would not recommend.

Check in okay but then you have to drive through barrier and around the back to a modern accomodation block. Rooms clean and modern but tiny, yes there is TV, its behind a sliding door in a cupboard, bathroom quiet spacious though. £70 for two in such a tinny room abit high , but all hotels in Slough/ heathrow area expensive. Has asmall gym but no pool. Free Wi-Fi was fast and stable. Breakfast good, bar looked nice but full of business types in suits so we felt a bit out of place in jeans- the pub over the road does great food, good price and nice beer. Cookham a , historic village and the river close by makes for good walking. Bit of a faff to get to, but M4 and M40 each only 10-15 mins away and worth it if you like a quiet location and fed up with major chains.
