“If only they had a thicker wall...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

The room was small for 2 people - the closet is also narrow, but it's enough for 1 solo traveler. They have a patio and a little garden for you in every room/villa.

I spent two nights in this hotel. The first night I had my friend as my next room neighbor. That went fine (though my friend complained that the water stopped mid-shower).. I can't say that things went well on the 2nd night. That night I learned that the wall's so thin that I could hear a couple of stranger in the next room doing their lovey-dovey business.

The service was excellent - staff spoke good English (in Javanese accent though). They arranged a good sunrise trip for us with the motor carriage to Borobudur. They also provided a lot of other tours in and around Borobudur. They were very helpful and attentive for the hotel guests.

What I love the most about this hotel was the great garden with big trees and their open lobby. The lobby with books and board games and piano and lots of ethnic decorations became the place to hang out and met fellow traveler.

We stayed in for 1 night. Upon arrival,we request to rent a bike to cycle around the village. We went near the paddy field where we sat waiting for sunset. There,we could see the tip of Borobudur Temple. It was really beautiful. The next morning,we went for sunrise i Borobudur which can be arranged by the hotel. Overall,it was a pleasant stay. RB is indeed very peaceful. I love it there.

Stylish and good structure placed in a small village (with gardens, trees, palmas etc). Rooms are small but have wide windows on private garden. The open air lobby in colonial style is very nice and you can organize trip with a good free wifi.

But...we had to change room because sheets were badly patched and not very clean.
Very strange beacuse room and bathroom were both clean and in good condition.
Breakfast is medium.

Temple is not far so you can rent a byke in the lobby to reach it in this scenic corner of Java

We stayed here for a night recently to view the temple at Borobudur. We absolutely loved our stay in our junior villa. Yes these rooms are small but on two sides, each room is bounded by enclosed by private gardens. So with good weather you can open the doors right up to create a large private space - sort of like your own romantic garden retreat (if so inclined to be romantic which I was). I also wholeheartedly agree with a previous reviewer who said that after the noise and chaos of Java, this made an ideal place to escape to relieve those brow-beaten senses (I was not awoken by the early call to pray and I'm a very light sleeper)..

My only comment was that the restaurant was quite expensive We walked the 20 minutes or so to another hotel for dinner which was both very cheap and delicious.

One more thing... the hotel has bikes available for rent. So if you ever felt a need to be swanning along through rice paddies like Julia Roberts in 'Eat Pray Love', this place will certainly go a long way to meeting that fantasy. I did and I loved those bikes.

It was such a treat to stay in a recreated Indonesian village near Borobudur Temple.

My villa was a charming sight. It It has a private main door leading to a private garden then there's another door leading to a room with queen size bed. What's nice is the floor to ceiling glass windows covered with blinds. When you open it there's a nice view of the garden.

I spent a relaxing afternoon till evening at the lobby with their excellent internet connection and ethnic background music. I like how they arranged the open air lobby with nice details and traditional design. The afternoon tea was a treat! So relaxing just to lounge here!

The restaurant was fine with great selection of food. I had dinner here with my favorite dish of nasi goreng.

Rumah Boedi is strategically located near Borobudur Temple. Not a walking distance to the Temple but transportation can be arranged with Front Desk. The staff is courteous and helpful. Overall my stay was pleasant!

The junior villa we stayed in is clean and spacious. It came with nice landscaping surrounding and given the location, it felt great to be with nature and away from the city. The mosque chanting wasn't as loud as it was described in some of the reviews here. We had good sleep for the 5 nights we stayed there.

Wifi was only available in a central lounge area and in the restaurant.

One thing though, was the pillows and mattress that had very stale and used smell. Rather overpowering as it got onto our pajamas too after few hours of sleep. Probably because there was not much ventilation for the room if air-conditioner was switched on whenever in room and the pillows and mattress were not sunned at all. We asked for fresh towels to cover over the pillows.

The food here was delicious and tea was served at 4pm everyday. Being vegetarians, we did not have any difficulty in getting our meals settled. the staff were friendly and helpful.

There were also bicycles for rent here which was a nice way to explore the village and areas around Borobudur. To get to Borobudur, it takes abt 30mins walking or less than 10 mins car ride, which Rumah Boedi can arranged and for picked up when contacted at any location we were outside.

Generally, for somewhere outside the buzz and city, Rumah Boedi is an ideal location, where villagers around it were also a friendly bunch.

This is our first trip with our 3.5 year old boy and it was an awesome experience. All we wanted was to get away from the city and go to a quiet and relaxing place. We stayed at the junior villa which was spacious enough for the three of us. We like the huge windows in the bathroom, though the lighting could be improved. The shower corner could be quite dark in the evening. The bed was okay, though we had to encounter a little baby cockroach under the duvet, which the staff quickly got rid of, but anyway, staying at a remote area which is surrounded by lush nature green, we could you expect? Surprisingly, none of us got mosquito bites!

Afternoon tea at the pendopo was another memorable experience. The angkringan was super yummy, and sitting at the pendopo listening to the piano was just heavenly.

Breakfast was great too. So were lunch and dinner. We think we had one of the best soto ayam ever! The price of the lunch and dinner however, was a rip off! IDR 75K for a bowl of soto ayam, another 75K for a plate of nasi goreng! We had no choice to eat in because our little boy was down with fever on the 1st day. But at least, the food was great so if our pocket was bleeding, it shouldn't have been that bad :p

Service staff was prompt, I thought we were all switched to a slow mode in jogja, but it didn't apply to the staff at rumah boedi.

Distance to borobudur temple is kinda far, we paid 50K for a one way car trip from rumah boedi which was about 5 mins drive from the temple. Transport was a bit pricey too.

Overall, rumah boedi is a total awesome experience for all of us. We miss it already!! We hope we'll come back soon with our big family!
