We had originally made reservations with Lotus Guesthouse 2 (LG2) because it was known to be cleaner and much better quality than Lotus Guesthouse 1 (LG1). Because we did not confirm with the owner one day before we arrived by telephone (we called his land line but the call did not make it through), our room was released and given to another guest. This was a big disappointment as we really wanted to stay there, but were directed to stay at the sister LG1 location which was located within a stone's throw of the Borobudur Temple entrance.
The rooms at LG1 are both cheaper and lower quality than LG2. We opted for the upper floor room with a balcony view of the street; this was highly preferred after looking at the alternative smaller room options. There was nothing overly special about our room and it was barely rated as an average quality room, but it was bearable for the 4.5 hours we slept there. I didn't even want to spend the energy to shower here as it wasn't really shower worthy. You might have a gecko sneak into the room but hopefully the provided mosquito net keeps them out of your sleeping quarters.
The one advantage to LG1 is the extremely close proximity to Borobudur Temple. Even with the last minute changes, it actually worked out very well for us because we were on a very limited time schedule in Borobudur and had to leave very quickly after our tour of Borobudur Temple. Since LG1 was so close to Borobudur Temple, we were able to spend as much time as possible there and quickly get back to our guesthouse to wait for our driver. The owners of Lotus Guesthouse can also arrange a sunrise tour overlooking Borobudur Temple at a reasonable price which was one of our highlights in Borobudur; we went in a group of four people along with two other people from LG2. You won't be disappointed as long as you ask for Golan as your tour guide and you will have an excellent time with his high level of energy and friendliness.
All in all, you'll get a basic breakfast including in your LG1 stay and an affordable place to sleep for the night (but try not to stay for multiple nights unless you really have to).
Pay a little more for the more expensive upper floor balcony rooms (~160,000 Rp), it won't brea...
