“worst food i have ever experienced”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2008

My partner and I decided to take a Christmas break and decided to book up in Albir as this is a lovely resort, away from it all but 10 mins in bus if you wish a few nights out in Benidorm. The hotel was stated as 4 star so we thought the standards would be high as this is a new hotel and they would be looking to please all newcomers as repeat business and recommendation is what makes these hotels survive. On arrival first impression looked good.Receptionist was pleasent and no probs,Room was clean and spacious as you would expect from 4 star anyway. The restaruant is no biger than a decent sized cafe, about 3 choices for main course and all food was cold,a microwave next to it speaks volumes.the standard of the food would not even match 2 star.Christmas day nothing at all on in hotel and food just the same.3rd NIGHT about 200 youn spaniards arrived for 2 nights on a football trip,so we were all hearded into a small room for dinner as main restaruant was reserved for them,We never ate there after that,we complianed to reception about standard of food and were told they had recieved a lot of complaints and the managing director was looking into it ?.if you wish a swim in leisure centre it will cost you 10 euros for 2 hours + 3 for a towel 3 for shoes and 3 for a cap.the noise from the spaniards went on until 6.00am both mornings.I travel all over abroad at least 8 times a year and am not one to complain about food, this is the first time in over 30 years of travel i was totally disgusted, avoid this hotel at all costs.

We have returned from this Hotel and I must say that we would have given it an excellent rating except for the following :-
(1) It is on a very steep hill and the hotel does NOT have an arrangement with the coach co. from the airport,
(2) The hotel has the weirdest set out of any hotel we have ever visited, the reception is on the 3rd floor??? ...BUT once you go to find your room be prepared. NO SIGNS!!!!! we were told the 2nd floor and when we went down there the only thing we saw was the Bar. But wait the rooms were through what appeared to be a Fire Excape. Whilst the doors were open the corridoor was in darkness. Walking down the lights did come on as we went, or should we say sometimes. .and we got to the room the very odd painted nunbers made us wonder if we have gotten the correct room.
(3) The reception staff were great, the cleaning staff were great, the bar staff were great but the buffett staff were not up to the job as the food was COLD & the staff just stood there, they did not even tell us about the micowave. We thank Carlos for the one sign he made up for the Paino Bar. (Although it did not open for the rest of the week?) Also Vicky was more than great, as was Anna.
(4) A note to Carlos...There should be more infomation in the rooms. A map of the Hotel would have made thing a lot easier
More up to date infomation on the webb site e.g. the Shuttle Bus stops at the end of October, and one or two more English TV channels. (Also please see note2)

What a wonderful find. This hotel goes the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable, nothing is too much trouble. The reception staff are excellent, they told us where to go and what was worth seeing. The food was excellent and the hotel was spotlessly clean. We asked if we could have a sea view room which they obliged and what a view we had, we looked over Albir, Altea and as far as Calpe. The hotel is in a very quiet residential area next to a national park, we slept like logs, no noise whatsoever. The room was lovely, the large beds very comfortable and the bathroom spotlessly clean and very tasteful. It had nice touches, such as toothpaste and brushes, combs, shaving cream and razors. The beach and bars of Albir are about 10 minutes walk away and Altea about 45 minutes away. You must visit Altea old town it is very beautiful. Also a must is the walk to the Lighthouse. The area is stunning, lots of lovely places to visit, we did not have time to see everything, and to think its just around the corner from Benidorm!! The hotel was very quiet in the week but was very busy over the weekend, the Spanish come for weekend breaks. This is a Spa Hotel, we did not use the facilities but it looked very nice. If you appreciate class hotels and want a quiet relaxing holiday this is the hotel for you. We can not wait to go back in 09.

Have just returned from a weekend away with girlfriends at the sun palace. It was perfect, it is extremely clean. We had a sea view overlooking albir all the way to altea which was stunning. Room easily accomodated 3 adults comfortably. The public areas of the hotel are very nice, the bar especially with outside seating overlooking the pool and mountains. Drinks are very reasonable and the staff excellent. We did not use the spa as the weather was so nice so we enjoyed lazing around the outside pool retiring occasionally to the shade of the bar terrace. However, the spa looked good, you do have to pay extra though. The hotel is at the top of a hill but it is easily walkable into town if you are mobile. There are many restaurants and bars in town. We also walked to Altea along the front (took around 45 mins) but it makes a lovely evening excursion, plenty of lovely restaurants up near the church at the top of Altea. We were room only at the hotel but tried the buffet and food was fresh, nice and plentiful. All in all no complaints at all.

Arrived at hotel and were impressed with standard of accomodation if not location. Evening meal did not commence until 20.30 hrs and the selection was abysmal, the hot food was luke warm, a microwave was kindly provided! The staff were polite but could not speak English. The only night when there was any life was Saturday when the locals arrived for a weekend break, but it was back to normal on Sunday. The best way to describe the place is that it had no soul, it reminded me of 'The Shining'. It was also on a very steep hill which made it unsuitable for elderly or infirm guests. Drinks were a different price according to who served you. All in all it was an experience I do not want to repeat. Management need to decide whether they want a business hotel or one for tourists as at the moment they are satisfying neither. Also either retrain the chefs, or replace them!
