“Paradise on Safari”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2011

Gibb's Farm is a bit of Paradise - the property is sited in the midst of an organic farm - from which much of the food offered at meals derives) overlooking a western facing valley. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, herb gardens, banana plants, coffee plants all used in the designs. The "cottages" are gorgeous - each has a private veranda, outdoor shower, fireplace, soaking tubs, 2 very good king sized beds, sitting area - just lovely . They offer story telling, village visits, massages , garden tours. Each evening several habituated bushbabies come down to be fed bananas in the reception area.

The gift shop is filled with carefully selected high quality items including several very useful
field guides.
Meals are generous, healthful and of good quality. The service is first rate - they even do your laundry

This is an incredible property for simply unwinding at the end of a long safari. The rooms are all located in individual themed cottages set amongst the working farm and beautiful gardens. Fireplaces in the room are lit at night for romantic post-dinner relaxing or even a soak in the tub next to the fire. Porches overlook the farm and drinks in the evening from the gardens are unforgettable. Food is good but, surprisingly, not great. Service is fine. Not much to "do" here but if you need to detox after a week of riding on bumpy roads in the parks, Gibbs Farm is for you.

This place looks like the Garden of Eden -- they organically grow about 90% of the food they serve -- and the meals are delicious! The cottages are gorgeous, and include indoor and outdoor showers. The staff are delightful, the other guests are interesting, the views are outstanding. I wish I could live here.

Gibbs Farm is a central location for visiting Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro, crater, so it is attracts tourists. Expect the drinks to add up. This hotel has a lot of charm.

I was definitely expecting a colonial experience in the midst of forest surrounded by the conservation area. What I found was lot more and even after two months still relishing the vivid memory of a great experience which we shared with the people of Gibb's Farm.
We enjoyed our own small safari around the farm which they called "Rhythm of the Farm", something which we will never forget like milking the cows, making our cheeses, bread making etc.
Time around the vegetable garden was magical which drew us closer to our childhood. Refreshing meals made from the organic produce, picked twice for freshness. The Chef was very pleasant who took us around the kitchen and explained in details all the ecological concerns they have taken care at the Farm. The food was very appetizing and presentation very contemporary, no wonder they got a mention in Good Safari guide .
The evening fire was a very nice touch during the turndown. Wish to return where we enjoyed some of the best moments of our life.

The Lodge is a very nice hotel for a stop, so you don’t have to drive 6h from Arusha to Ngorongoro. At this hotel you can go and see the coffee bean production and much more. In the hotel all rooms have the same size. Actually a room is a personal house where I think 4 people could live but for 4 people you have to book 2 rooms. But for one night the hotel is great.

We stayed at Gibbs for 2 nights after a 10 days safari. We were initially booked into their "standard" rooms, which are only 3 of the cottages not updated as yet. The standard room was musty, the bathroom was very old and "grungy" looking. The upstairs bedroom was small and had extremely narrow stairs leading to it with the only bathroom downstairs. Needless to say, we were very dissappointed. After discussing this with the manager and explaining our disappointment in the old cottage, for an additional cost, we were upgraded to a new cottage, which was beautiful, comfortable and had great views from the veranda of the farm. One of my friends was not feeling well and enjoyed staying in a comfortable bed the next day. The food there was wonderful and we enjoyed the tour of the farm, roasting coffee and a hike to the "Elephant Caves". The only thing I found a little strange was that they did not pick up laundry from your cottage. You had to haul it up to the main desk to get laundry service. Other than that, this is a wonderful place to stay and we really enjoyed our stay. Just be sure and only book the updated cottages.
