“Our private camp in March”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2010

We were very surprised to have the whole place to ourselves (group of 4) in March, Ndutu area. The camp staff outnumbered us. Good food, loved the campfire at night. Chemical toilet kept clean. Wonderful to be in the middle of the bush and hear the night sounds. Our guide ate meals with us which we enjoyed, I worried about how he was taken care of at other lodges.

This had to be our favourite stop on your 14 day safari. The wildlife viewing around here was like no other on our trip, just amazing. We spent two nights here, and wish we could have spent more. (even though my 7 year old woke me up the first night because of a thunder and lightening storm and asked me "are you sure we want to stay here two nights.) Some of the best food we had was served here. We came in at lunch on the second day to be served some of the best pizza I have ever had! The staff was another highlight of this camp. The first night we were they only guests, the staff were so great with my kids. They even brought out marshmallows to the campfire for the kids! My kids were amazed. I honestly could have moved in, I didn't even mind not having a flush toilet! LOL

My dad and I booked a safari through Tanzania Journeys (a little heard of safari company that was recommended to me by a friend who lived in Tanzania for a few years). Great company by the way! We said that we wanted to try to catch a glimpse of the migration of the zebra and wildebeest in the Serengeti and asked if there were any camps that would be near the migration. Tanzania Journeys suggested these camps because they are mobile and move every few months with the migration. Not only did we get to see the migration because of the location of this camp (10s of 1000s of wildebeest and zebra), it was so unique to be camping amidst the wildlife (no fencing, etc.)! The first night of our two nights that we stayed at the savannah camp in Ndutu, there were elephants in the camp! We could hear them tromping around and making small trumpeting noises. The tents were very nice quality. We were provided with recharged batteries each afternoon which allowed us to turn on lights in the tent for use at night. We were also provided with hot water on request for taking showers. The food was good and staff very friendly!

My girlferiend and I spent 2 days there in August 2008.
It was a fantastic experience.
Only a few (6 or 8?) walk-in ensuite tents in the bush, close to the Seronera valley (central serengeti). You are really in the bush in the middle of nowhere. Very intimate and romantic atmosphere.
The tent is very nice: large, with nice furniture, comfortable double beds, en suite bathroom. WC is chemical (no flush) but it worked properly and was clean. The shower was with the bucket (funny experience). Every time you want to have a shower you need to ask the personnel who would quickly bring you a a bucket of hot water (more than sufficient for showering 2 persons).
Food was good considering where we were!
Back from the safary you would first enjoy a drink around the bonfire and then have dinner together with the people of the other tents. It was nice to chat to the other people in the evening and tell each other what one saw during the day.
Personnel and staff could have not been more kind, attentive and helpful. There were around 8 people of staff, I think (always someone on guard also during the night), but you would not notice them as they try to keep the atmosphere very intimate and avoid to disturb the quiet and peace of the place.
My girlfriend got (very) sick one evening and the staff was particularly nice and tried to help as much as they could. We were very very thankful.
In sum, an absolutely marvellous experience. It is impossible to forget those evenings spent in the bush, with a huge starred sky above us, the sound of crickets and hyenas around us, and the chat around a bonfire, while sipping a cold beer.
An experience not to be missed.
