Several one and two bedroom self catering apartments open in July, 2012. This nearly brand new facility really offers as much as you can expect from a self-catering facility, both in location and amenities. About 12-14 kilometers from the airport on the more quiet and relaxing south-eastern shore, this property is literally dozens of meters from the water. The beach is secluded and frequented by locals only, so you get a real flavor of the community. There is a small island, a flat plateau, and gentle waves with a reef in this region which mean you can truly enjoy wonderful snorkeling. Several hours slip by unnoticed as you enjoy the underwater life, floating on the gentle swells of warm water. The accommodations are new, with all accoutrements in place. The kitchen is large and well stocked, including a mini starter kit (eggs, butter, bread, salt, pepper, oil, etc). Nice beach towels can be borrowed for a deposit. Drinks are available for a modest additional fee, as is the internet access (although service can be spotty: while we were there, a ship apparently severed the island’s cable line, and so the whole island was without internet for some time!). The bedroom is large, with local woods used in the construction of the closets and cabinets. There are more plugs than you could possibly shake a stick at, including adapters (although maybe these should be “rented” to keep people from taking them by accident). The medical beds were too firm for our liking, but the owners promptly replaced the top mattress with one that was softer! The verandah is wide with space for alfresco dining, watching the sunrise, or drying wet gear. The smart design includes outdoor showers and sinks for washing and rinsing equipment or bathing suites. Every effort was made by the owners to assure an enjoyable stay, including arranging car rental at a substantial discount to what was available on-line. Further, a pick-up service from the airport and car delivery was also arranged. The only drawback is that the downhill neighbor will not allow for any signage, and so, without posted street addresses or street names in this region of the island, you may be hard pressed to find the turn off from the main road! But, there again, if you have trouble finding it, it makes it that much more secluded and private! Groceries are available within a kilometer or two in either direction but selection is very limited anywhere but in the heart of the capital. Because all items, especially alcohol, are expensive on the island, you might want to make use of the duty free shop before you arrive.
