“Don't Stay Anywhere Else”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

Nuits Saint-Pierre was splendid. A gracious English speaking owner, modern large comfortable rooms & bathrooms with high quality linens, and modern facilities. You can have a full cooked breakfast or only continental if you prefer...real croissants! Coffee & tea available all day. Fridge available to chill your own wine and cheese. Nice little tearoom with real French pastries. The hotel is a very short walk from the ferry and so well located for the downtown core. Although we did not see the rooms in Hotel Robert (the only other hotel in town), I would say the price for quality such as you get at Nuits Saint-Pierre is quite reasonable and definitely worth it.

The breakfast crepes were delicious; the room was very modern; free wifi;
and the patisserie was an excellent choice for lunch.

This b&b in St. Pierre is stunning - tasteful, beautiful, clean, modern and sophisticated - in a gorgeous old building. First class accommodations with lovely linens and finishes.
The elegance is matched by the first class service, with a lovely coffee shop / bakery attached!
The value for money is terrific - you will not find this value anywhere in a major city.

After reading numerous glowing reviews my husband chose Les Nuits for our two nights in St. Pierre. This little hotel well surpassed any of the expectations we had. Perfect location for exploring St. Pierre. Quaint european look from the outside---modern, sleek, updated on the inside. Most comfortable bed of our 2 week trip. (We were touring NFLD) Fresh, clean---every detail was seen to! Patricia was so nice and helpful---the other staff were delightful young ladies who provided us with delicious breakfasts. We loved the cafe attached "Chez Josephine"---quiche to die for, pastries yummy. When we returned to our trip in NFLD we ran into several people headed to St. Pierre and passed on the information about Les Nuits. I agree with some of the other reviews.....Les Nuits is the ONLY place to stay when visiting St. Pierre" The other hotels/inns are just not in the same league.

Because I spend the summers on Cape Breton Island, I always wanted to visit St. Pierre and Miquelon which is not that far away, but I was always put off by the fact that all of the accomodations that I could find on the internet looked pretty cheesy. Well, folks, not any more. St. Pierre et iles may not be ready for prime time tourism (and rest assured, they aren't), but the Nuits St. Pierre is. Now that there are five really nice rooms in St. Pierre, it should be easy to figure out the rest. Actually, not any time soon.

Anyway, the Nuits is perfectly situated a couple of blocks from the ferry terminal and within walking distance of everything there is to see in St. Pierre which, as I intimated, is not much. I arrived by very expensive Air St. Pierre from Sydney into the very expensive air terminal which supports maybe three 8-10 seater flights a day. It is a nice terminal and obviously a make-work project. I was met at the airport (nice guy - maybe Patricia's husband but not so much English) and cheerfully transported to the Nuits. There I met Patricia who is the kind of person that St. Pierre needs to clone a thousand times to succeed at tourism. She is delightful. Good attitude. Gracious. Helpful. Even speaks more than a smattering of English (which is a real no-no on St.Pierre). I can't enough nice things about Patricia. And neither will you when you go there.

My first room for three days. Two walk-up flights. The suite is up there and my room No.4. Everything was new, comfortable and thoughtful. It gets a little warm up there, but not too hot and the fan helps. No tub, but a high tech shower with two heads that took me 20 minutes to figure out and I am no technological moron. The water was hot; the WiFi works; you can get a decently priced bottle of St. Emilion in house. It's quiet. I couldn't ask for a better room except the one I had on the second floor for one night that had a sofa and a little more light and was a little cooler.

On the second floor, they have the breakfast area and self-serve coffee maker and other stuff. It takes a while to figure out the coffee maker, but once you do, the single serve coffee is pretty good. Breakfast croissants and assorted yogurt and sometimes more is also quite good.

On the ground floor, they have opened a cafe, bakery operation which sells patisseries, sandwiches and the like. Patricia runs that operation too. The food is quite good there. She, of course, is as gracious as ever to whomever is seated at the dozen or so tables.

The Nuits is not cheap. And there are some weird anomalies there. For example, the towel linens in the bathrooms are higher end interstate motel thin. They don't replenish the shampoo etc. every day (I had to sneak some out of the cart); no bar soap ( just euro body wash and I had to sneak some out of the service closet). But these are more in the nature of minor learning pains than fundamental flaws.

The bottom line is that this is where you need to stay in St.Pierre if you are not hitch-hiking across Canada or back-packing on $15 a day. Caution: make sure to bring your boyfriend or girlfriend or significant other to maximize your happiiness in the nice rooms in the foggy Casablanca airport type island where the sun didn't shine for four days. I didn't, but if the opportunity had presented itself, I probably would have run away with Patricia. For that matter, there is some surprisingly good food to be found in St.Pierre, albeit served at tables with paper napkins. Go figure.

If you do not stay in this hotel you are really not experiencing St Pierre Island. It is first class all the way and makes you truly feel like you are in France. Very comfortable, locally situated and the hostess and staff are just so genuinely helpful and nice. There is now a little cafe associated with the hotel which we did not get a chance to try, but I am sure that you would not be disappointed there either. Book early though as the word is out!

I stayed in the Lamartine Room at Nuits Saint-Pierre for two nights in June. The hotel was everything I hoped it would be....amazingly clean, luxurious, and modern. The bathrooms are simply incredible. Patricia is a very charming host. Even though she was getting ready to open a new coffee shop in the hotel in just a few days, I never felt neglected. The baked treats that were available in the kitchen every day were delicious. Saint-Pierre is a charming place to visit. I would highly recommend it, and Nuits Saint-Pierre is THE place to stay!

Thank you very much for those glorious comments !

I want to make just a little addition : the "wonderful pastries" are even more numerous than before (and even better ??? I hope so !) but they are now downstairs, in the coffee shop, with a large selections of fine teas, coffees and chocolates as well as light lunches. And believe me, our guests still enjoy them very much !

A bientôt ! Patricia
