“Very nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2011

The hotel is very well located and has very neat and clean rooms. We liked the Floating cotages which were very well made and made you feel in the water.

The restaurant was closed and so we found the service to be really bad as the kitched was very far.

Over all good.

Very nice resort. Greenery and fresh air everywhere. Away from maddening crowd and enough activities to keep the kids busy - painting, craft, cycling, boating, fishing, tambola, books, swimming. Loved the south Indian food and the sirodhara massage. The rains in evening were heavy and romantic. Highly recommend. Staff was very responsive and caring.

Some areas of resort needs maintenance and extra safety like pool and children safe door knobs and bridge rails. Toiletries and linen also can be improved though was sufficient. Overall very good experience.

Room Tip: Excellent place and floating cottages are the best place to stay. Excellent view of water, boats, fi...

We took a day off just before the weekend and headed for Ashtamudi from Mumbai. We took an Air India flight to Kochi and a taxi (charged INR 100) to the Ernakulam (ERN) station and from their Triavndrum Exp to Quilon Jn (QLN). We had already asked the resort to arrange for a Cab and off we were for Ashtamudi.
We reached the Club property and refreshed ourselves in the lobby and the food court. In the meantime they arranged for our room (much before our check in time). We had done the last minute reservation and somehow managed to grab a floating cottage for ourselves. Later when we met the other members in the hotel we got to know we had been lucky enough to get the floating cottage as they have booked much early and got the normal ones.
People who have stayed in the same doesn't need a description but all those who are still contemplating if to vist the place, please give it a first priority provided you get the floating cottage. I would try to upload a video and add the link of the property but definitely I would be adding snaps as words would fail to describe the luxurious place.
The evening would pass by seating in the balcony watching boats sail by and looking into the vastness of the lake and listening to the waves of water hitting the cottages. As the night approaches the cottage starts to float slightly and it gives an awesome experience. The tranquility and the bounties of nature would add to the man made cottages.
However, the resort has provision for moderate entertainment like paddling boats, library, few events and sightseeing. To me all these were okay compared to the resort and the lake.
The food was typical Club Mahindra buffet but again the floating restaurant in the morning is a pleasure in itself. Sun rays streaming down the blinds and lake with the fisherman boat and Chinese net makes even a normal breakfast heavenly.

Room Tip: Floating cottage anytime, else please dont go :D

It is still my best Vacation ever. Ashtamudi - Club Mahindra is one of the best place a couple or the entire Family can go for a week long Vacation. We really enjoyed every moment of our stay here. Best time to Visit is during the months of Oct Nov DeC Jan and Feb. Amazing Place For Lovers of Nature.

We went to Ashtamudi in the last week of November 2010. Had requested the Resort Manager to arrange a pick-up for us at Kollam Jn railway station. The ride from Kollam to the resort, about 15 kms away, takes about 30 minutes. The approach road, which is a small detour from National Highway 66, is a bit tedious, with a mix of mud and tar road.

The check-in process was quick and efficient. We took up rooms in the upper floor on land, which gives a panoramic view of the lake. View of the lake is breath-taking! The are a few floating rooms too. Ashtamudi derives its name from the the words "Ashta" meaning eight and "Mudi" meaning arm - the lake; its a misnomer to call it a lake, its more like an ocean!; has 8 arms extending into the backwaters.

The restaurant is set on a floating platform. The food spread can certainly get better. The hospitality staff are recruited from the local area, so some may discover communication a problem. Dining on the outer edge of the restaurant, outside the aircon enclosure, is bliss, what with the cool breeze from across the lake kissing your face!

Location could not be any better! Set in the midst of nowhere, its the ideal place to unwind, without a care in the world! The beautiful lakefront is Heavens on earth.

We opted not to go out anywhere during the entire stay of 3 nights and 4 days, just basking in the cool glow of the white sheet of water in front. We did just about nothing but laze in the portico, watching the day pass into night, and the lights come on across the lake.

Rooms are well appointed - linen is clean, bath is well kept and the toiletries are replenished daily.

We had scheduled an early check out, 5 AM, to catch the Jan Shatabdi Train to Ernakulam, more so since we were travelling with an infant.

I want more of Ashtamudi!! Will surely go back there again.

Room Tip: Pick the upper rooms on the waterfront, a wonderful place to relax watching the sere lake.

I am actually running out of words - the Ashtamudi property is an awesome property. It was such a relaxing holiday - we have never had one like this before. Never imagined that this would be as beautiful and peaceful as it appeared on the website. You will never get bored at Ashtamudi. We stayed in one of the floating cottages with loads of fish all around our cottage. The staff are all very friendly and extremely helpful. We were there for two nights and didnt want to leave from there. The food was superb - they had a mix of North Indian, South Indian and Continental. There is lots to do there - take the houseboat or a speedboat or better still the paddling boat. You can just lie on one of the hammocks and read a book - which I did. Go swimming and please dont miss the Spa treatment. Everything was heavenly... loved that place.

Room Tip: This is the most wonderful place for a family holiday. They have something for everyone. We stayed...

a great resort along with amazing food & great hospitality. The floating cottages are mind blowing, & the scenic beauty in & around the resort is fantastic. Though u need to book in advance as there are fewer rooms/cottages & generally booking should be 2-3 months in advance.

Room Tip: Book in advance
