“Good scenery”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

The amazing view of the beautiful lake is the major plus point of the trip the outside property of the hotel is well maintained, the pool is a decent sized clean one. Friendly staff. There was no spa facility available when we were there. The House boat ride was quite relaxing, the hotel restaurant was decent enough but had to wait a minimum of 30 mins for the food to arrive. It is very difficult to find the hotel itself , after asking a lot of local people and travelling through some narrow pot holed road we were surprised to see the hotel located by the lake. The sad part was the rooms themselves, we stayed in 3 deluxe cottages and 1 Cottage over the water.
The rooms smelled old and clearly mouldy. The telephones don’t work , the Shower handles needs fixing, The kettle is dusty. The bed sheets has mosquito stained blood splatters, and the floors were not cleaned you have to wear slippers all around. If you are a person who is not very demanding I guess this is an ok place to stay in.

1. Pool still not open, (since december) green and slimy.
2. No BYO and NO ALCOHOL AVAILABLE in the whole hotel.
3. Staff surely and slow.
4. Room small and unclean, (floating room).

DREADFUL!! I feel that I was duped into booking this as the trip advisor site said there was wifi throughout and also this place has a Bar, both of these statements are NOT TRUE. I am very disappointed with this place and will not be recommending it to any of my friends or family headed to Kerala. What a dive....

Somebody found a distant piece of rock beside a back-water lake to create the ultimate getaway site. Rooms are q uite small and twin beds are a bit of a squeeze, restaurant gives good food and service, the infinity pool has a nice feel to it. Weak 3G signal so use this opportunity to leave the world behind you.

Room Tip: Take a cabin on the lake if you like waterbeds - a decent wave action will lull you to sleep.

It was a little hard to reach and took us a good 2 hours plus from Trivandrum airport in a prepaid taxi. In general, we found the roads in Kerala to be pretty bad. But the taxi driver was very nice and accommodating and let us stop for lunch en route too. Anyway, when we eventually reached the hotel, we decided to upgrade to a Floating Cottage. It was incredible. The room actually is on the waters of the huge Lake Ashtamudi and moves around (just ever so slightly) with the water's current. The room has a little balcony where one can sit and just stare at the huge expanse of water around - glittering in the sunlight and mysterious by dark. Ever so often, the local fishermen go by in their fishing boats, starting out even before the first light and returning one boat at a time into the late hours. And if one looks carefully, you can see schools of fish of different types and sizes, swimming around furiously just below the balcony!

Food was excellent! Options were a bit limited given that it was off-season and not many people were around, but we were more than satisfied with the fare we got and the taste and quality of the food. Service was really great too - both in the restaurant and at the reception. Both the managers on duty were very responsive to our needs, within the resort as well as while arranging for sight seeing trips. Their packages (for sight seeing) are a bit expensive, but we found it most convenient.

Swimming pool was not open (due to monsoons). But the spa was great.

All in all, a great place if you want to relax and enjoy some calm and quiet time. If you are looking for crowds and activity though, this can be very boring.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a floating cottage, unless you tend to have serious motion sickness. Much better value th...

We started our trip to Kerala with 3 days in this remote resort, to relax, hang out at the pool and read our books. At least that was the plan.
Our room was dirty, didn't look like the sheets had been changed since the last customer. A muddy pond in front of our room (and the restaurant) stank. After our complaints, we were upgraded to a floating cabin, which had a leaking floor and also stank like sewage (though as not as bad as the pond). The pool was not working throughout the three days we stayed there. We ran out of toilet paper and asked three times for it (on the phone and in person), no success (so BYO if you go there). Our bed wasn't made in three days.
The only good thing of this stay was that we really liked all the other accommodations in Kerala (which were a fraction of the price) - it couldn't get worse.

The location is heavenly. We got a floating cottage which has a porch just enough for 2 chairs and a table. Sitting there with the expanse of the Ashtamudi lake before you gives you a soothing and calming feeling. Most of our mornings and evenings were spent here taking in the calmness of the waters with some fishermen's boats passing by occassionally. In the afternoons we had to go indoors into an air condition environment though we did keep the blinds up so that we could still see the lake. Unfortunately the rooms are much smaller than the regular cottages - all of which do face the lake. The food is not something to look forward to unfortunately. There is no consistency - something you order the second time will look quite different from the first time. And, you could also get chinese food cooked in coconut oil. Though the FnB manager Anil took all efforts to comply to our requirements. Room service too was good. The staff is polite and helpful. We did not have any issues with having enough amenities in the room. There is no gym though they say they do have it. There is no lady masseuse. I embarrased the guy by saying I was ok for a head massage by a guy - he refused. The pool is well maintained. And yes, we did have quite a time getting to the place since theer are no signs and the approach road is bad. Go there if you want to have a lazy holiday doing nothing.

I am surprised at luvinrahul's experience. We did not have any issues taking our cab near our room. Yes the service is not 5 star level but satisfactory. Yes, the GM was nveer seen, even if he was around. My high rating is solely for the location.

Room Tip: All cottages face the lake. Floating cottages are smaller than the regular cottages. Only advantage...
