Description: Opened about Dec 2009. Local paper (Wausau Daily Herald) gave it a four star review. We ate there for lunch on 4/30/2010. Ambitious menu, fresh ingredients, well-prepared dishes with good presentation. Interesting wine selections. And the cleanest bathrooms in memory. This is now our first-choice for upscale food in Wausau.

“UNBELIEVABLE BISTRO- JUST EAST OF WAUSAU, WI!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2010

Wonderful Asian Fusion (plus Irish) food served at this gorgeous bistro style restaurant. Belongs downtown Milwaukee or even Chicago. Owners Lee and Jim are warm and elcoming, food is fantastic, and the decor beautiful. I went with 3 girlfriends and we enjoyed a fantastic lunch with wine. We are looking forward ot going back in the evening soon to take in their live music. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling to the Wausau area!!!

“Wonderful food, atmosphere, menu. Fusion food, wine bar, great steaks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2010

A very unique experience for Wausau. Thai meets Irish American cuisine. A boutique wine bar environment. The food was hot fresh tasty whether salad, Thai saute, or their special of the day Grilled Roast Duck [one of the best meals fixed without a sweet and salty glaze]. Sides and desserts were great. Finally a place in Wausau that plays relaxing jazz [like Coltrane] for its background music. If you enjoy good food and a twist on cuisine, Basil will allow you to have your steak and potatoes [with rosemary and basil] and your curry too. Desert was on par with the rest of the experience; we had three different ones - all very good. Enjoy - $20-30 per person [which means one of the best in its class in the area]

“Best Asian Food In Wausau - Great For Night Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2010

Basil is new to the area but the menu is well worth a visit. The pan-Asian menu features many outstanding choices from the soups to the noodle dishes, to a stray offering such as Irish Stew (one of the owners is Irish American). The place is small but very comfortable and cozy, and busier and much nicer than you might expect based upon its location in a local "lifefstyle center" (i.e. strip mall). Service is very attentive. But the real star of the show remains the food which is more imaginative and better executed than the myriad of other Chinese/unidentified Asian options in the Wausau area. Definitely a must visit.
