“a quiet oasis in the middle of 3 weeks noise and chaos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

After spendindg 12 days travelling and experiencing India with all its colour , noise and traffic. madness , artriving at this beautiful house felt like staying at someones well loved home. Our room no 39 was on top floor overlooking lake with its own big private balcony with great views. we sat in the evening on a canopied terrace listening to musicinas whilst we ate our meal, once night from the buffet and the 2nd from the A la carte menue. Food was good on both occasions but we definitely prefer a la carte food. The only downside wasd that thre were only a very few beds etc by the pool and they need to provide more. We went on the jeep safari around the little villages which was really interesting and gave us a vision of different cultures etc. Fabulous place.

Room Tip: Room 39 was fantastic. Great patio with view, nice sitting area and full of character.

You wonder where you are going, through desert and scrub. Then arrival at a wondrous painted walled entrance way. There before you beautifully manicured gardens, lawns and tall trees. We were shown to our upstairs bedroom that looked out over the lake, the other side was a roof deck with canopied seats. The beds were a little hard for elderly bones, but plenty of space, with little windows looking out over the complex, bathroom - spacious and clean. Pity - no hairdryer - when one arrived it didn't work! So peaceful and relaxing around the pool, or just sitting in the garden reading. Chipmunks and peacocks roaming. One of the few privately owned "fort" left in Rajasthan. Overall a good experience.

Room Tip: ground floor level looking out on the garden. Take your insect repellent, there insects around.

This was probably the best of all the heritage hotels we stayed during our tour of Northern India. From the moment you see the detailed paintings round the gateway arch you realise this is something special.

We had a huge room, wonderfully decorated, with cushioned alcoves and a beautifully embroidered quilt, spotlessly clean and very quiet in a truly colonial garden setting.

We ate dinner by the pool, seranaded by a trio of very lively musicians. Service and food were superb - they even cooked dishes that we specially asked for. On both nights the owner and his son - who clearly knew the British royal family well - came to talk with us about the hotel's history, its surroundings and the work they do with the local people.

The hotel serves high tea on the lawn in the afternoon; again very much part of the colonial heritage. All around the walls are huge, amazing hand painted pictures in the local "dot" style.

We walked round the village of Rohet and felt perfectly safe (though I got my shirt chewed by a cow, much to the amusement of a group of school children going home). Our driver took us to a great little family run carpet place (about 10 minutes down the road to Jodhpur) where we got some great bargains.

A group arrived at the hotel by coach, in the dark, had dinner, went to bed and left next day, again in the dark. What a waste! They saw nothing of this delightful hotel.

We would have no hesitation returning to this rather special hotel.

Many of the heritage hotel options are more glitz than heritage... this felt like a real home turned into a charming hotel. The gardens, which are in enclosed by the hotel buildings, are a fantastic place to sit for a drink or tea... lovely bird sounds, with parrots and peacocks coming to visit, and beautifully planted. The pool is very nice, the cooking demonstration was a pleasant surprise -- we didn't expect to enjoy it so much. The merwari horses are spirited and the morning ride a nice way to see the village and countryside. The bar, which has one side open to the garden, is one of nicest ANYWHERE. The food was also very good, the only disappointment was the dining room, which is not a pleasant a place to be as the rest of the hotel.
Our room was fantastic for a family -- with two pretty cushioned alcoves able to accommodate children. I am not sure, but maybe it was number 27?
I hope we go back here sometime.

Just passing through, but had a delightful stopover in this genuine heritage hotel in Rajasthan. I say genuine, because it's the only one that we found on this trip that wasn't a re-creation! Enjoyable stay in a quaint suite. Tall folks won't enjoy the low ceilings and door frames etc! Service was good and well-intentioned, if somewhat below expectations from the somewhat embellished website. Food was limited and uninspiring for such a unique property. The setting and the gardens are excellent.

We voted this the very best hotel of our tour of Rajasthan (and we stayed at 9). As you drive through the village of Rohet, having come from the beautiful city of Jodhpur, we honestly wondered what we were going to find and why our local travel agent had put it on the itinerary BUT we immediately realized as we saw the hotel gate that we were in for a treat.. Wonderful spacey rooms, beautifully kept gardens where they serve afternoon tea, a colonial style bar and.. we got a delicious dinner served at a tastefully laid table by the swimming pool serenaded by a local band of 3.. Just what dreams are made of. We went on the evening safari with an excellent knowledgeable guide which was well worth it. We also met the young man who is taking over the running of the hotel - just graduating from hotel school in Lausanne and you could definitely feel the professionalism. A must for 2 nights!

Rohet Garh is one of the many princely palaces and stately homes owned by the former Indian nobility that have been converted into hotels with varying degrees of success and luxury. Rohet Garh is a great success -- beautiful and tasteful. Situated by a small lake, with excellent birds for birders, the walls of the Garh surround a lovely garden where afternoon tea and cake is served by uniformed staff. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated. Dinner in the dining room was typical and tasty, breakfast was excellent. We visited in mid-March and the swiming pool was distinctly chilly. Because of the proximity to the lake there are more than the usual number of mosquitoes. Overall, we would heartily recommend Rohet Garh for a quiet stay in a small town
