A chance to relax after some spectacular but gruelling walks,is offered at the Caldes de Boi,a baths fed by a 25 degree spring which probably dates back to Roman times. We followed our soak with a trip to Lake St. Maurici known as "twisted waters'. part of this trip route is done in a 4-wheel drive.
This region is characterised by water, more than 50 lakes, numerous waterfalls, marshes and bogs, not to mention, meandering rivers flowing along granite and slate formations. Its epic, scenic and ever so, beautiful. Ther are numerous guided or individual walks that you can assail against the magnificent 3000 m peaks, the most impressive of which bears the name of"the enchanted". this leads to the spellbinding peace of the darkly shimmering lakes, the coniferous and birch forests and the treeless meadow lands.
With little luck,we walkers were rewarded by seeing chamois, capercaillies, and mountain eagles, and a few mountain voles and marmots. We followed the broad Segre Valley, hardly noticing that we were at 1100 m above sea-level. the views of the mountains are incredibly beautiful, particularly in the evenings when their flanks are bathed in shades of red light. The precipitous North face is a veritable Eldorado for Catalan climbers.
