“lovely holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

Initial impressions were good but check in was a poor experience. we were given a map and more or less left to it. a friendly couple we met by the pool showed us to our room! However this was the worst part of the holiday. There are an awful lot of steps but this didn't bother us too much as we are relatively fit.
The room was lovely, cleaned every day and towels changed. staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was always fresh and hot with plenty of choice, but we were always in the restaurant early.
A lovely walk across the front into the little town, feeding the friendly parrots along the way.
We walked into the next village where there is a very small turtle rescue centre, free entrance and a great restaurant on the front.
We would definitely return to this hotel but would make sure it was outside the main school holidays as it could be very busy with lots of children, due to the size of the complex.

we paid £5000 for 4 adults and 1 child (16yrs). August 7-22 all inclusive deal. the pools were fab, almost empty most of the time, though some tiles were missing and the edging stones were stony to stop you slipping but were painful on bare feet! Rooms - towels mixture of old and new ones! air conditioning had to be fixed twice and it was still bad, no kettle but I took my own, however rinsing old milk in the bathroom caused the drain to smell! the only way to get free milk was to bring it up from breakfast (only whole milk) as the rest of the day there was none available or a disgusting paper cup machine. animation team - tried extremely hard but was a high school standard in the evening, day time was fun but hit and miss. the disco for my grown kids was dead so they didn't go at all. the beach was fantastic once you got there but the slopes are steep and I fell in my flip flops and I am NOT unfit! the wind seemed to match high tides and then drop for a few days, when it was at its worst the beach was unusable due to being blasted by hot sand. the location was just modern beach shops and a couple of bars and eateries, no atmosphere or culture. HOWEVER - we loved the pools and the beach and the food was as good as you get on an island that can't grow much so we felt it was a good pool holiday for the money. the zoo trip was ok -typical cute animals kept in below uk standards but some conservation and breeding programmes going on. the catamaran boat trip was over priced and did find loads of dolphins for us but only sailed along the coast we were staying on so no new scenery. We had no problems with language differences as everything was translated in turn, reception staff were multi lingual. the only bad service we got was from an intrusive room maid who made our teenagers get up so she could clean the room despite them saying clearly they did not want her service that day!

Room Tip: block 7 was good, choose upper floors to get a view and no noise from your neighbours feet.

Ok so I've booked with first choice for many years & up until now never been disappointed. Arrived late night was given a map & told our room number. 1 hour later red hot tired begging for directions. We stated in block 6 which was good a near the pool etc. No one spoke English, no late check out available, nothing for kids on an eve and I mean nothing!!!! Kids club & entertainment is in Spanish/German/French! My girl was so disappointed. They try there beat during the day but again we didn't understand a word!! Lost the 1st day due to travelling so lay day wasn't leaving until 5:00pm, no late check out & was given a voucher got dinner but no snacks all day! Complete rip off!!!!! Rooms are good & pool lovely but sea salt. gents beware take long trousers for the restaurant. Boat trip half day waste of time, overbooked & no where to sit! Expected a lot more from first choice!

The hotel staff were very attentive, and the room was very good. The entertainment aroung the pool was a bit "leary" adnd the entertainment staff tried their best. The walk to the beach was marred by a very dirty tunnel under the road, but the hotel said it was not their responsibility. Having said that the manager said he would into it as it reflected badly on the hotel. The food was fantastic in the buffet restaurant, and the service very good. The beach was one of the finest I have ever been to, and I have been to a few.

Room Tip: Obviously go for one facing the sea. The room was quiet.

In short:
1) super friendly reception staff.
2) Great selection of food at all meal times although shame about the machine-juice at breakfast.
3) Spacious rooms although the noise levels will depend on which building you are in.... Main building rooms can be quite noisy with the 24hr droning from the air con installation in the car park (but convenient if you don't want/can't walk too far).
4) Lots of shade around the pools if you want it!
5) Amazing beach 10 min walk away, perfect for walking off breakfast/lunch....Endlesswhitesand, spotlessly clean and very relaxing.
6) Sorry, but we found daily pool-side entertainment extremely annoying and intrusive. Even at the lower level pool you were constantly forced to listen to "vamos, vamos, vamos" like you would expect on a club 18-30 holiday. A little less volume would have been better.
7) Have to disagree with the comments about booking sun beds early. Some people do bagsie beds, but we always managed to find perfect spots every day, going down leisurely after breakfast and found that people move alot durig the day so places become available all through the day.
8) Disappointing visit to the speciality Canadian restaurant... Technical problems meant hot plate had been switched off and food was totally stone cold but there was no offer to return to try again another night.

In summary, depending on what you pay determines if it's value for money or not. We were generally pleased with our short stay, it was relaxing, we were well fed and treated well.

Overall very good value for money hotel. (travelled 17th July to 31st July)

Beach is fantastic, especially if you travel 10 minutes or so to the port and then walk back along beach path - stunning views.

The hotel is a little dated but still very comfortable. In my opinion the review which mentions 'noise' is a little unfair. We were a group of 3 adults and yes there were quite a few children but did not find this a nuisance. There was a very good selection of food both at lunch and dinner, like a lot of all inclusive hotels sometimes it wasn;t as hot as it could be, but they were cooking fresh food all the time and it would depend on your timing as to whether it had just been put out or not.

We sat on a terrace just a little way up from the main pool and although we could here the animation teams entertainment, it was not that loud. I thought the entertainment team worked very hard. We attended all the shows in the theatre and thought the ones provided by the team were more entertaining than the professional acts brought in. They were very funny and most of them were very talented.

I was not keen on the fact the hotel had a section of the hotel for premium guests which the 'ordinary ' guest could not enter. (It was a bit like them and us). I certainly would not have paid to go in the premium as I believe the price was around 50% more expensive than the main hotel. The pool that was exclusive to them was probably the same distance from main pool going the other way as where we were sitting and I am sure they would have still been able to hear the daytime entertainment.

I think the only downside of this hotel is that all drinks in the restaurant and snack bar are self service and quality of the soft drinks was not great, not to mention the coffee at breakfast which was from a machine and was awful. I think drinks from the hotel bars, which were served to you, probably came from machines as they were still not great. Cannot comment on other drinks as I don't drink alcohol.

Have to say despite drinks quality we had a really good holiday

Room Tip: We were in block 6 which we liked as we were close to main pool but part way down the hill, if you a...

We were there at the beginning of June. The staff were all very helpful, especially Gary on reception. We asked to change rooms as we didn't like being on the ground floor, we were moved to block 9, top floor, perfect. The resort was very clean, the food was very good, varied and hot, there was something different on the grill every day, lots of fish. The position was great, a nice walk into town, all flat, easy to get to the beach via the underpass, beach bars at regular intervals, great iced coffees. The entertainment team tried very hard, some good shows, sometimes a bit naff but if you take it in good spirit and a glass of wine you can enjoy it.
They could do with a matre'd in the dinning room when it's busy, but we joined other tables of people and spoke to lots of interesting people. Can't fault it for a good value holiday. We would definitely go back there, which we would nor normally do.

Room Tip: Blocks 8&9 are at the front overlooking the beach, bit of a walk up to the main part of the hote...
