“promised 5* - got "charter experience"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

we stayed in Premium Club of Barcelo hotel. when buying the trip, we were presented with pictures showing beautiful facilities reserved for adults only and a high end kind of experience. we payed even extra for the sea view and were looking forward to a lovely quiet week.

on arrival we were placed in a room with a glimpse of sea somewhere far far away. I was immediately complaining but was told - that is sea view. well, on closer inspection one can say ALL the rooms were sea view then as all the rooms were facing the sea side. so why did we get the option to pay extra?

we were on an All Inclusive plan - the breakfasts and lunches were really good, food and drink wise. the service was polite but the staff speaks almost no English/German at all so we were experiencing misunderstandings on a daily basis. what was "charming" the first day turned quite annoying after while. the dinners were rather poor - in the a la carte restaurant they attempted gourmet dining but neither the quality of the food, nor the service was adequate. again, very poor language skills, constant misunderstanding, at least 2-3 unpleasant situations EVERY day.

in the Premium Club after the lunch there was no possibility for a snack or anything even though the brochure stated that the snack bar at the pool has such option. so we had to go to the main part of the hotel where the food hall for snacks was a total disaster (McDonald's is a Michelin starred restaurant in comparison).

the most annoying part was the fact that we were sold a totally different product - a small delicate quiet hotel for adults only and ended in a charter tour. the hotel was enormous and ouor part was divided from rest by a simple row of bushes and a bit of a height difference. this resulted that we were forced to hear to loud music/disco whole day, reading at the pool was accompanied by constant screaming of the animators from the other side.

do yourselves a favor - drop this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing week as a couple. on the other hand, for stag party, families with small children and elderly... certainly a good destination.

besides, there is virtually nothing to do at fuerteventura - we hired a car and drove around the island, the nature is interesting at first, boring after a couple of miles - dry dry dry mountains. the winds are blowing constantly and even the capital of the island was a disappointment.

we were told there will be around 22-25 degrees there in December, we were looking at 16-18 at best. again - perhaps it was just a falsly promoted product by the travel agency.

Room Tip: in Premium Club, DEMAND upper floors. DO NOT upgrade to Suite - suites are not physically located wi...

My daughter and I stayed in the premium part of this hotel on an all inclusive holiday for 10 nights in January and honestly couldn't find fault with anything. We could have any drinks we wanted (including champagne), the food was really good, we had our own lovely a la carte restaurant for dinner and the first night we had lobster thermador!. The 2 pools were great and we had an enormous jaccuzzi which was very warm and big enough to swim in. Breakfast and lunch was served with a pool view and you could sit either in or out and the lunch buffet was gorgeous and different every day. The bar staff appeared with the cocktail of the day when you were on the sunbeds both morning and afternoon. The entertainment staff were very good although all the entertainment took place in the 4* part of the hotel. Being in the Premium part we could go anywhere in the 4* part but they were not allowed to use our facilities which made it very quiet around our facilities. Will we be returning here, bet your life we will.

Room Tip: Have a look at the 1 bedroom superior rooms if you really want to have luxury!!!

My wife and I stayed for seven days here in January.
Although the hotel is huge it was not overcrowded and even at the busiest times there would be plenty of space and amenities for everyone. We stayed in Block 3, furthest from the main buildings but a lovely room with a fantastic sea view.
We were all inclusive and the food was more than adequate although not always hot. Always plenty of choice.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the entertainment team worked hard.
The beach at Jandia is fantastic, soft sand stretching for miles - just watch out for the pesky chipmunks - just vermin with bushy tails - in and on the rocks as you walk north.
Overall no complaints. We'd recommend it to our friends but will not be returning - especially now that Barcelo Worldwide Hotels are not available with Tesco clubcard vouchers!!

Room Tip: Yellow blocks offer sea views whether you are on the ground, middle or top floors and are also not o...

We stayed in the premium section of the hotel, which is right next to the main reception. The pool area was very peaceful during the day and there seemed to be plenty of entertainment in the main part for the evening, (although, other than venturing down to the talent show for other than one act we didn’t really spend much time there). The choice and quality of the food was excellent, again I can only comment of the premium section. What we did particularly like was the a la carte restaurant in the evening which gave a nice break from buffet food. Every single member of staff we met was extremely pleasant and professional. From being unsure (even sceptical) about holidaying all inclusive, we are already planning a return trip next year.

stayed in the premium part of the hotel, although like others have said the premium bar finishes at 8 and then over at the other hotel, we actually thought it gave us best of both worlds quiet and relaxing through the day and livelier at night with a good animation team shocolatto and aisla were lovely. food was good branded drinks heated pool clean comfortable room attentive staff it certainly ticked all our boxes. We were lucky and met some lovely couples which added to and enhanced our experience.

Stayed at this hotel recently for one week, we booked with Thomas Cook & although they package it as 'Jandia Resort' it is in fact two separate hotels, the Mar at the top of the VERY steep hill & the Playa half way down. Having read the reviews we decided to go for the Playa & e-mailed our request in advance, the mini-bus drops you off at the Mar, everyone on our bus was staying at the Mar & we got the the feeling unless you ask for the Playa they put you in the Mar? They send a taxi to take you the couple of hundred yards back down the hill to the Playa which was quite amusing!!

Found the Jandia Playa an excellcent hotel, immaculate grounds & pool areas, food was usual all-inclusive fare. The only thing that stopped me giving it top marks is that the rooms were a little jaded with old fashioned furnishings (we were in block 7) & the shower had a life of its own, TV selection was also poor with CNN & BBC world news being the only two english channels.

As mentioned in other reviews the British are a minority in this hotel with it seeming to be mainly Spanish & German guests, although this did not bother us, if you are the type who likes to be surrounded by lots of fellow brits & pubs showing sky sports this is prob not the place for you, as apart from the walk down to the superb beach there is not much around the hotel.

Top tip - spend your days down by the spa, lovely pool, plenty of sunbeds, & very peaceful away from the main pools & noisey animation team blaring out music all afternoon.

Room Tip: ask for room in main hotel & not one of the outside blocks
