“premium club fanatstic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2011

I stayed at this hotel at easter and as a travel agent i can honestly say it was fantastic i have been on many cruises and the food was easily equal standard.
the staff were excellent very attentive and pleasant especially the two ladies who work in a morning in the premuim restaurant, even though none of the staff speak particularly good english.
It really is a different world inside club premium the pool area was fantastic no reserving sunbeds and they have these fab beds with cutains tied back you can relax on. it is a real shame that the bar does not stop open after 1800 however the bar just outside club premium is equally as nice branded drinks and friendly staff.
I cant really think of a down side if i had 1 complaint it would be that the a la carte restaurant needs some back ground music as it was very quiet, but fantastic food
I will certainly reccommend this to any of my customers 5 stars*****
well done Barcelo!!!

Went here with my Fiancee, Brother and a friend. We had a fantastic holiday. Cant see why all these negative reviews. The hotel itself is very impressive looking with large swimming pools, the Barcelo Jandia Playa is bigger then the Barcelo Jandia Mar. The Playa also has an adult only part of the complex. Am unsure if it can be booked in the UK but you can book it locally. It has a private Adult only pool and out door Jacuzzi. Also when you book this package you upgrade your drinks so international brands are included also and an extra A La Carte Restaurant. The animation in the hotel was very entertaining. They really try to get the guests involved during the day and night. During the day theres activities such as Stretching, Dance lessons, Rifle Shooting, Archery, Table Tennis, Pool Tables. Water Polo. Football and Mini Golf. Plenty to keep everyone entertained. Of a night they had a Parrott Show, Singers, Discos Dancing and African dancers and acrobatics. Even Karaoke. Theses also happen in the Barcelo Jandia Mar. All of which we had a fantastic time. They work so hard. The food was also great Plently of variety for all needs. Plenty of variety for all Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Was very full up by the end of my holiday. The snack bar was excellent. Burgers, Hotdogs chips Ham and Cheese Toasties, Even Salads. Also plenty of variety. In this hotel the snack bar is a short walk away from the pool. Where in the Barcelo Jandia Mar its right by the pool. There is even an A La Carte Restaurant which is Spanish but its a self serve Buffee. You must make a reservation but the food was excellent. I LOVE THE MOJO POTATOES.All the staff in the hotel are very helpful friendly and aproachable. All the animation team are fantastic and work so hard to keep you entertained. Could not fault this hotel one bit. Now the Reason my headline is Dont Just Book It Thomas Cook it is because when you book with Thomas Cook you get the Red band which means you can use all the facilities of the Barcelo Jandia Mar also. Otherwise when you book with another tour operator you can pay an aproximately an extra 4 euro per person per day to use the sister hotel. We had an amazing time come back with a wicked tan and plenty of memories. This hotel has a smaller but hotter Jacuzzi. Loved It. Thank you The Barcelo Jandia Mar & Playa also known as the Barcelo Jandia Resort. We will return soon. Thank you.

Yes it is a long transfer to the hotel, yes the food is a bit ordinary but we really enjoyed our week at this hotel.

The hotel is roomy with spotless, very light and comfortable public areas. We travelled as two mums with two teenage daughters and got our interconnecting seaview rooms as promised. It was a bit of a muddle checking in as we were dropped at the sister hotel, the Jandia Mar, but the situation was eventually sorted out by the not very efficient reception staff at the Playa. The reception people seemed much more efficient and friendly at the Jandia Mar. If you travel with Thomas Cook you can use the facilities at both hotels, so we varied where to eat etc. We did try the Canarian Restaurant, but sadly would not really recommend it as the food was a bit strange and it was still self service!

We enjoyed sampling the variety of drinks on offer, from the mojitos at the pool bar to the endless cava and cocktails readily available in the evening.

We did get a taxi to Moro Jable costing 5euros and enjoyed the walk back along the beach path towards the hotel. This was about a 30 min walk, with the last stages taking in the usual touristy shops where we could buy our souveniers.

There were not many Brits at the hotel but we thought this was a good thing! The few Brits we did meet were lovely.

The entertainment was cheesy but we did enjoy it!

The sunshine was fantastic.

Room Tip: Do go to the beach, but beware the eldery nudists!

Transfers to / from airport;- Due to remoteness of this hotel from the airport took four and a half hours from touchdown to arrival. Tour operators have all outsourced transport we had to wait one hour forty minutes until it picked up and endure the most boring transfer ever via about 15 other hotels. The landscape is unremittingly dull! To the airport - could not stand a repeat performance took a Taxi instead just over an hour door to door but €89 fare.

Front desk - under staffed and not very efficient - messed up room key cards (twice). Gave in correct information on Taxi fare. Seem to prefer Spanish or German to English language.

Room - sea view as requested - clean but not spotlessly so. Furnishings tired and in need of replacement. Mattresses very firm, pillows long thin and not very supportive. Fridge - worked OK. No kettle took my own mini kettle cups and tea bags. Toiletries were OK and replenished when required as were towels. Air conditioning in dire need of servicing. Solution - (if you are not on ground floor) before going to dinner open balcony window leave ceiling fan on and it should be cool enough to sleep on your return.

Restaurants - main buffet restaurant OK but food that that was supposed to be hot was really warm at best. A lot of rehashing from previous day went on. Drinks on tap wine, beer, soft drinks but quality was variable. Themed restaurants are not free you pay for all drinks except house wine - we walked out. In addition the better themed restaurant is only for use by Premier Club customers. Snack bar was actually my favourite better selection of self service drinks hotter fresher food and inside / outside tables always available.

Bars - staff at piano bar were short handed but tried hard to meet demand worst queue I saw was 25 people long at about 9 pm. Acts in piano bar were variable standard but tolerable. Bar on reception level was less busy it seemed to me and you could still hear the music probably from 2 floors below.

Shows - mostly by an over the top animation team only one we liked was from outside - The Africa Show.

Pools - clean in the main but very cold except small pool by spa which is heated (very popular with families). Crowded around all pools lots of towels on loungers at 9 am reserving spaces! Solution - go to the beach a 15 minute stroll hire a couple of loungers and an umbrella for €12 per day and you get more personal space, warmer water and better views (we went 3 times).

Premier Club - we spoke to some people staying in it and the premium is €29-49 (depending on season) per person per night - you get a private child free area with its own bar (shuts at 18:00 hrs after which you have to use the same ones as everybody else) and the exclusive use of one of the themed restaurants.

Medical - if you need a doctor during your stay be prepared for a shock apparently a 10 minute consultation costs €140!

Value For Money? - We paid €575 (about £490) for two of us for a week 'all' inclusive including flights from London. If we had been asked for a cent more then it would have been far too much.

Room Tip: Nearby Spar store - stock up on items for fridge.

Having just returned from 1 week at Barcelo Jandia Playa I would like to say that this is a hotel of 2 halves. We spent the first 2 days in the main hotel and found the layout, rooms, pools etc to be ok. The food and eating areas however were like a canteen. We ate there on the first evening and were very disappointed. Food itself not too bad, but atmosphere was awful. After eating out of the hotel on the second night we decided to upgrade to Premium. They gave us a special rate of 2 for 38 euros/night instaed of per person, which was good. It was well worth the extra and we really enjoyed the remainder of the week. I won't repeat description as others before have done but pools, sunbeds, atmosphere and food were night and day compared to main hotel. A good place for a relaxing week but there are other places i prefer, so would probably not return.

The Jandia Resort is made up of two hotels next door to each other, the Jandia Mar and the Jandia Playa, having read a lot of negative reviews I was a bit dubious but can honestly say the Playa, where I stayed, was fantastic. It was spotlessly clean and well maintained, the staff we're friendly and efficient, the food was good with lots of choice as were drinks. The rooms were large and clean. It is a large, modernish resort about an hour or so from the airport, it is about 5 to 10 minute walk to the beach which was nice and clean with shallow water so quite safe. I spoke to some people who were staying in the Mar and they too were happy with that part of the resort. All in all it I thought it excellent and would go there again and happily recommend it.

This review is only for the Premium part of the hotel, if we had booked for the main part we'd have upgraded or left - which one german I spoke to did.
Stayed here for 2 weeks and endorse the comments of previous reviewers.
Superior Rooms OK, nothing special. We had 155 which was by the entry port so got sounds of people moving in and out but better than being on Floor 0 which was at pool level. get Floor 2 if possible. Overall it met the brochure description but we had to ask for water to be replenished each day and the mini bar was not replenished but as drink available all day this was not an issue. Beware the shower, has a tendancy to flood the floor.
Food - table service excellent in the Atlantico bar for breakfast, lunch and all day drink service until 18.00 when it closes. Unlike previous reviewer never met any surly staff, in fact quite the opposite. Standard of food very high, 4* and with some of the lunch fresh fish touching 5* . Dinner served in the Premium restaurant which is in part of the main hotel and not available to other guests. Again service very good. Its a 7 day menu with a chefs canape starter and cocktail drink and then 2 choices for starter, main course and dessert plus a menu choice of standard fare if you didn't like the main choices. Without exception the food was high quality and on a couple of occasions really hit 5* standard with the fresh fish.
Pool side - very good plenty of beds and whilst 85% of the guests were german there is no problem with "towel booking". in fact the hotel states anyone doing so will have the articles removed to reception and we did see that rule enforced. Pools were not heated so a tad cool and the jacuzzi which comes on automatically every 20 min for 20 min is very noisy - like being beside a waterfall.
Bars - The main bar in reception is pretty poor. Plus Premium does not entitle you to carte blanche for drinks. Only some name brands are available eg Gordons Gin but not Bombay Saphire, that was costed extra.
Entertainment is none existent unless you enjoy karoke type german sing alongs.
Position - overlooks the beach but that is 1k away over a dual carriageway. The beach is excellent albeit limited access because it is a nature reserve.
Things to do - nothing really except to lie by the pool side soaking up the excellent weather which when we were there was superb. A walk to Jablo 3k away is a highlight and whilst there are good bars and restaurants why pay extra when the Premier does it better at the all inclusive price.
WiFi is free in the Premium area but reception not brilliant.
