“Castello di Montignano: a real time travel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2010

This castle hotel merges the history, architecture, classical hospitality with modern leisure facilities. The recently renovated building has been owned by the same family for centuries. As the property located in one of the smallest villages of Umbria you will feel like a resident.
Both the building and the interior design respects the history: period furniture and showcases present the past. As long as modern bathroom, WiFi etc. gives you the comfort of the 21st century.
Thanks for the owners love for art, the hotel regularly hosts contemporary exhibitions. The exclusive Roman spa ensures perfect relaxation for you.
In case of good weather enjoy a swim in the outdoor swimming pool overlooking the beautiful Italian landscape! (In March I could not do this...)
I hope to visit the hotel with my partner again and probably I will held my wedding in Montignano some day :)

Giuseppe and his family were gracious hosts. The chef and wait staff were charming and accommodating. The food and wine were fantastic and local. They managed to combine modern design with the castle's original architecture very well. The spa was amazing, we had a wine bath and couples massage. Its in a great location for day-tripping around Umbria. The room was by far the best accommodations we had in Italy. It can't be beat for a beautiful old-world setting with a youthful hip vibe.

Castello di Montignano is a retreat fit for a King, a hidden gem, inside a castle that's over 1000 years. Romance and beauty abound in every corner of this ancient masterpiece. Spacious rooms, gourmet food, wonderful hospitality, delightful spa and magic all around... a sojourn of delight!! We spent 4 nights in the beautiful summer of Umbria and it was worth every minute. We will certainly return and highly recommend this delightful place.

My husband and I spent a wonderful long weekend at the Relais Castello di Montignano in July. This was our first trip to Rome and to Umbria and we were thrilled with our experience. The room was really beautiful with amazing furniture. The grounds were very nice with a huge swimming pool. The breakfast buffet was very inviting and the staff was extremely kind and we would not hesitate to return on our next trip, although we would stay longer.

After visiting beautiful Rome as a start for our honeymoon. We did a weektrip in Umbria.
In 2008 we already visited tuscany and yes we liked it...but a little to touristy for us in june/july.

Umbria really surprised us very much, very beautiful, good food and wine and far more unspoiled by the many tourist groups you meet in tuscany. After visiting several nice towns and hotels we looked for a nice place to end our honeymoon.

Normally I always use tripadvisor to plan a trip and check the hotels etc but with the wedding there was no time...... So we just took the chance this time and lucky us we hit the jackpot! The Castello Montignano just opened in april 2009 and we read about it in a Charm/relax brochure we found in another hotel. We liked it very much so I want to share this with other tripadvisor users because I saw that there was no review yet and so i'am happy to be the first.

The Castello is build nearly 1000 years ago and after the grandfather past away who lived in the castle. Grandson Guiseppe decided to keep the property and after four years renovation a really beautiful place is there. The Castello is beautiful decorated by the wife of guiseppe. She is a designer and every space and the rooms I saw were very beautiful. Big LCD, Big rain shower, nice view, Nice beds in a very romantic decorated room.

Service .. ...the people are very helpful and nothing is to much
The Spa... .beautiful and professional
The pool... Big, clean, great view, perfect two person lounge beds, olive trees
The wine bar/restaurant...we had a very good evening and dinner and breakfast
Location.... very small village between Spoleto and Todi. Rome 1,5 hour
Costs.........Good quality for money

We go certainly back when we are in Umbria/Italy. see the pictures!
