“Amazing Amazon Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2011

The 3 hour bus and boat ride to get to Juma Lodge was worth every minute. Lodge is built on stilts and walkways take you everywhere. Staff is very friendly, food delicious! 2 very people-friendly monkeys made the experience even more fun! Caiman spotting at night and jungle hike with grilled fish for lunch were our favorite excursions. Ensuite room very comfortable with an electric fan at night.

You can't imagine that you'll find this magic place in the middle of the Amazonas... After a 3 hour trip you reach the lodge. It is entirely built on palafits, the rooms offer a peerless view on the river: while you are in your bed you can see the moon reflecting on the water. The tours everyday are interesting and the food is ok considering that you are in the middle of the forest. And the special guest Isabel (the tapir) is the best! highly suggested.

Juma lodge is an amazing place. Everyone was so wonderful to us on our first trip to the amazon. It was by far the highlight of our trip to Brazil. The rooms are incredible, our guides were just the best and went out of their way to make our stay so spectacular. So thank you, Juma lodge, for making our dream trip to the amazon so incredible!!. --Wayne & Barbara

The staff here are very friendly and nice. The food I found was amazing!
There are 2 monkeys that are playful and parrots too. Its quite fun.

The tours themselves are very boring. I wouldnt stay here for more than 2 days.

I liked my experience overall. I would suggest this for older travellers or with families.

JUMA Lodge is an oasis in the middle of the Amazon. Completely in the middle of nowhere, away from everything. The staff takes good care, 3 perfect meals a day in the open air restaurant, with 360 degree view on the river. Little cabanas, all scattered over the place, lots of privacy, own balcony with hammock, what else do you need? Little impact on the nature, all is wood, wooden cabanas, wooden bridges to connect the cabanas with the restaurant and the place from where the little boats and canoes are to take us for a daytrip. Or you just stay at the lodge, take a swim in the river, if you are lucky you can swim with the pink river dolphins, cool!

We had a fantastic two-night stay in this lodge, about 100km from Manaus (horrible city by the way: just stay there long enough to visit the opera house before heading for the jungle). Juma Lodge is beautifully located - the journey there from Manaus is an experience in itself. It's all built on stilts so the walkways - and the rooms - sway a bit, but that's all part of the experience. The food, and the unusual and delicious fruit juices, are delicious; the service and hospitality excellent. It's not cheap, but everything's included (even your transfers between the airport and your hotel in Manaus), and the programme of tours is as good as it gets. Our guide was absolutely first-class: knowledgable, interesting, highly professional and an all-round good guy. The tours included several river trips, piranha fishing, night-time caiman spotting, a jungle hike, a visit to an Indian village and more. If you want to experience the Amazon rainforest safely and in comfort, while leaving a minimal environmental footprint, Juma Lodge will live up to all your expectations. Highly recommended.

We stayed in Juma Lodge for 4 days; the place is wonderful, the food is great and the daily trips were quite interesting (especially the visit to Indian "village" ); the staff is friendly and helpfull....the only unpleasant experience that one of our group got a malaria...please take pills or use a lot of anti mosquito lotions to prevent this unpleasant surprise....

Hello

I would like to thank you very much for the great review! Reviews like yours make us very satisfied!

Because of the acidity of the black waters, there are almost no mosquitoes in the region, so probably this tourist got malaria before arriving at Juma. Anyway, I agree with you that it is a good idea to have some malaria pills before going to the jungle.

I hope that you come back to visit us one day.

Best Regards,

Caio Fonseca
