What a disappointment it was after driving 500+ kilometers from Istanbul to reach this "resort" in the heart of beautiful Daday!
We had reserved our room for two adults and a baby about three weeks in advance for our holiday vacation.
We arrived at Iksir with my wife and our 6-month-old baby at around 6:00 p.m. on a weekday. After tendering our identification cards and filling out the necessary registration forms, escorted to our room in the main building. The room is one with a fire place consisting of a queen size bed, extremely tight standing shower cabinet and a separate w/c which is also very tight.
First surprise came almost suddenly, a baby crib with no maitres. Instead, a comforter, inventively folded in four to make a maitres to welcome the young member of our family. When we asked for a maitres we were told that they never had one and that they could provide a different blanket to create a maitres effect. At 7:30 p.m. we arrived at the restaurant for dinner and there was yet another surprise, no open buffet but instead, a fixed menu because there was not enough guests and that things would be back to normal when the "resort" became full !! We enjoyed an almost cold soup followed by grilled and burned Turkish meatballs followed by a fairly good rice pudding.
When escorted to our room we were asked whether we wanted to have the fire place on and it was a no-brainer to say Yes! On the way out to the reception area our bellboy/waiter politely whispered in my ear that the charge for the fire place was TL15.00 (about $9.00)... What bothered me the most is not to pay for extras but, the way which you are put on the spot to deal for such flimsy charges with the waiter.
We ended up sleeping all three in the same bed, fearful of rolling on our baby in sleep because of road weariness. At around 0:30 a.m. and when we were about to catch some REM the phone started ringing in a high pitch, causing both me and my wife to jump in bed. Fearing that our baby would be awaken my wife picked-up the phone. It was the receptionist calling to ask for our government identification numbers (social security numbers) for they had forgotten to copy from our identification cards earlier. Thankfully, my wife kept me in bed, before I jumped out to pay my respects(!) to the receptionist.
On the second night for dinner the cold soup treatment continued only this time followed by a salty and leathery grilled chicken breast and no desert at all. When my wife asked for a Turkish coffee after the feast (!) the same waiter again politely reached to whisper in my ear to tell me that the coffee would be an extra TL5.00 ($2.80) and, I politely whispered back "yes, I accept"
This is the best example of a management failure and very poor service. I only wonder what did each of the workers of Iksir did as a job before electing to become resort operators and crew??
