We have stayed at this friendly, well-run and reasonably priced B&B several times over the past few years. Jen Rood is very hospitable, and she can’t do enough for you.
All the bedrooms have tasteful furnishings and décor. We always use the “end” room, which has a pleasant cream and deep red colour scheme and is very quiet, except for the very occasional low mooing from the farm’s distant cattle. From the windows one can sometimes see Mr Rood checking their few cattle on horseback, riding past their arable fields around the farm.
The bed is extremely comfortable, with large cushions. Extra bedding and heating are provided if needed. The digital TV has great reception.
There is a very large en-suite bathroom with bath/shower over, which has windows overlooking the fields and distant countryside. The electric pumped shower is extremely powerful but is slightly noisy.
Jen’s breakfasts are fantastic! She provides a vast choice of different fruit, yogurts and cereals to start with, then a full English to follow, adjusted to one’s requirements. There are fruit juices, tea and coffee, and plenty of toast, even hot croissants as well, plus beautifully potted preserves and honey. If there were separate tables at breakfast then the overall rating might have been Excellent instead of Very Good.
We always enjoy staying at Rickham House and would recommend it whole-heartedly.
