“You go to bali, you go to kubu carik!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2012

.. it is a place out of the daily hustle bustle... its really nice to see the rice fields from the balcony of the room... and this place is great when its raining.. its nature at its best...the six days spent here are the best days in bali... our host claudia was incredibly warm and friendly.. .. it was very nice of her to take us to the white sand beach and spend the whole day with us there...this place just feels like home..

The food served here needs a special mention ..... its delicious, food here is served all day, i mean there are no rules or time bindings.. the fruit platter everyday for ur breakfast is a must because most of them are from the garden.

The people assisting claudia are very friendly.... i suggest if you going here then forget your laptops, phones... and get yourself lost in the nature and its beauty.

I can go on.. we had an amazin stay here.. and this review is for claudia and her team.. ..:)

Wow. All the other reviewers are right in giving Kubu Carik an 'excellent' review. What a little gem! We had such an amazing time here, and absolutely unique during our 4 weeks in Java and Bali. This place is so incredibly authentic, homely and welcoming. And the views are just stunning. Something I have never seen before and will never forget.

This is not your typical 'hotel'. You are basically guests with Claudia and her staff, who make the most delicious food. They can take you for walks around the rice paddies in the valley below and tell you about nice places to go in the area. When I say this is not your typical hotel, that also means that some amenities are not available. So no wifi, TV, minibar etc. But that's not to say that things are difficult to arrange. Everything is possible, you just have to ask. And it is well worth it. The experience we had here beats any fully equipped hotel or luxury resort.

In short: go here!!!

Room Tip: Ask Claudia to rent you a motorbike, an absolutely great way to blend into the local scene and explo...

So glad you liked your stay with us!
Again it was sad to see such wonderful guests go. I hope that the rest of your stay in Bali was pleasant and that you will come see us again in paradise soon. We look forward to welcoming you or anyone you think would like it on our mountain.

We had an amazing experience at Kubu Carik. The views of rice paddies from our room and outdoor dining area were breathtaking! Our host Claudia was incredibly kind and welcoming, inviting us to eat with her and organising a guided walking trek for us through the local rice paddies that was unforgettable. Not to be missed, a highlight of our trip to Bali! Thank-you to Claudia ad the team at Kubu Carik!

Kubu Carik is not a regular hotel, just 2 bungalows in a personal property. The most important thing is to get directions to get there. We drove our own car and coudn't contact Claudia, the owner, who was on a trip, so it was a challenge to find the place! (we drove for a couple hours and finally found it asking a couple people).

But one you get there, it is just wonderful. A place to relax and enjoy the fresh air, the sound of nature and the green everywhere!
.
You can park right at the entrance and walk downstairs to the bungalows, thought the lush gardens. Our bungalow had a great bathroom (not that easy to find in Indonesia!) with an incredible huge shower and a nice balcony to enjoy the sunset/sunrise facing the rice terraces.

The staff working there don't really speak English, but they are really nice and willing to help; you can have breakfast (included) and dinner (à la carte); everything that we had was just great, simple and home-made.

There is also an amazing pool overlooking the terraces.

The only downside of the place is that there are a couple dogs that are full of ticks (one even jumped to my leg) and not very well cared for. I love, love dogs, but their skin looked quite bad and it was sad, because I woudn't dare touching them and they really wanted to play!

Oh! Don't miss the Tirtagganga Water Palaces nearby and a great family-run Japanese restaurant, on "Jalang Abang - Amlapura Route", around 1 km after Tirtagganga, going uphill.

The problem with the dogs has been fixed. A problem common in Bali is that dogs are seldom taken care of. The dogs are regularly checked by a vet.

We stayed at kubu carik for valentines day with another couple for our 20 year wedding anniversary, This place was spectacular the views the pool the rooms and the staff were
amazing. This is old bali that every tourist should experience. Otto and his staff gave us first quality service but also gave us our privacy .Only 2 villas at the moment very clean and comfortable the walk in the rice fields down below and the view of Mt Agung to the side was breathtaking .Highly recommend this place for a couple of quiet days in the real bali . Thanks Otto for the wonderful dinners and the amazing conversation.

For all the bungalows and villas that Bali has to offer, there isn’t another place on the island like this one. Tucked deep into the hills of the rice paddy fields of East Bali, Kubu Carik is an oasis in a sea of a green. It’s not really a hotel, but rather the beautiful home of one Claudia and her daughter Sara, as well as Claudia’s father Otto.

Currently there are two bungalows available for rent: one with a king size bed (very comfy!) and the other with two twin beds. Each has its own bathroom and private balcony with a breathtaking view. The pool is lovely, as is the open-air dining room where guests take breakfast (free).

The only drawback is that it's literally in the middle of nowhere (a great thing if you're looking for peace and quiet), so getting transport in and around town is harder than it would be elsewhere. Expect to pay higher prices for a driver than you would in the more touristy areas of Bali. That said, you're close to the many historic and geographic wonders of East Bali.

And don't forget to take at least one dinner at Kubu Carik (served in the dining room or the shared patio between the bungalows). The house staff cooks up some amazing home-cooked Indonesian dishes that are not to be missed!

This place was made in heaven. The views over the rice fields was sensational, the walk through them was even better. The Host ( Otto) was one of the most loving person you could ever meet. He shared with us some wonderful stories about Kubu Carik & how it was built & also shared stories about himself & his family. A true gentleman. There are only 2 bunglows here that can sleep 2 people in each so you are by yourselves here & that is the best thing if you are looking for a relaxed holiday. The pool is nice & cool (which is also a good thing). The rooms are sensational & the view from the rooms is one of the best in Bali. Highly recommendable place to stay
