“Birthday Celebrations at Museum Hotel George Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

Absolutely fantastic food, such bespoke menus made to suit any dietary requirements, fantastic setting, you would never dream of it being in such a secluded area within the village of Farakalata and wonderful attentive hosts.
Nothing is too much trouble.

What a way to celebrate a surprise 50th birthday. It's was idyllic. Balloons, banners and a surprise Pavlova Birthday cake. Thank goodness there were not 50 candles on it.

Thank you so much Katarina.

For the first time, I feel Tripadvisor should have a special 6 star review.
The Museum Hotel George Molfetas, the Kefalonia Heritage Villa, is a true little gem in the heart of beautiful Kefalonia. Hidden in the small authentic village of Faraklata, on a hill facing the gulf of Argostoli, the villa has an unique charme. It is not a hotel, it's a warm and outstandingly stylish house, where every single corner is full of history, art, beautiful objects, books, paintings and old family pictures, you feel you are in wonderful olden times..... Every room is different, has a different name, all of them are embraced in warm style and comfort. I stayed in Anticlea room with my nephew, a stunning maisonette, wooden staricase and warm red walls, books everywhere, my mother at the marvelous Helen, warm in green and gold walls, sofas and furniture of, again, unique comfort and warmth. Beautiful Eros for my sister and her daughter, with a glassed bathroom ensuite and stones. Excellent breakfasts in the courtyard, with biological and healthy food.
But, above all this comfort and beauty, Katerina and Barry. As you arrive, you are welcomed with an embrace, and it lasts fot all your staying. Their hospitality makes you feel like you are as a family, the culture and the knowledge of Katerina, her open-hearted sharing, the beautiful background music played by Barry in the morning and evening and his warm smile ... I won't forget. They are also always attentive and ready to give you the best tips and advices on the island.
Last but not least, Katerina's cuisine. Dinners at the Molfetas are to remember. The cosiness of the terrace on the stunning living room are the perfect place for Katerina's dishes, most of them her own creations, with flavors and tastes unique and exquisite.
Sorry I have been a bit long, but I could go on and on and on....
Pure pleasure.
P.S. I don't usually put pictures, but the sign of the hotel is beautiful.

What a wonderful place to start our holiday on Kefalonia and the surrounding islands! Katerina and Barry are the most welcoming of hosts. Katerina has built (literally) a beautiful hotel with the most wonderful bedrooms and garden. We were welcomed as if we were family and felt immediately at home in this peaceful hideaway. Not only were we fed the most wonderful food using the freshest of ingredients flavoured with so many unusual combinations of herbs and spices but also enjoyed the very lovely and interesting company of Katerina and Barry. As an added bonus they have two lovely dogs, Sophie and Emma who only added to the enjoyment of staying here. We can't praise this little hotel enough and encourage anyone visiting Kefalonia to try and find time to stay here or at least enjoy one of Katerinas Meals! It was so good we managed to end our trip here too!!

Staying with Katerina and Barrry was like coming home to family. They made us feel so welcome and cared for and clearly they run a hotel because they enjoy meeting people and creating a beautiful environment. They are generous, kind and thoughtful hosts. We came here by chance, delayed by a ferry strike so we could not reach Ithaca. But the Gods were smiling on us and orchestrated this diversion so we could have a night in this woundeful hotel. Every room is gorgeous and Katerina's cooking is out of this world. Stay for dinner if you can. We wished we could have stayed longer, so much so we accidentally forgot to hand back the key! Which gave us the perfect excuse to stop by on the way back and we were welcomed with delicious breakfast, laughter and good conversation. Don't even think of staying anywhere else on kefalonia or you will have denied yourself a truly wonderful experience!

I chose this hotel because of it's very good write ups, and everything written here is so true!
My husband and I arrived after having cycled 50kms on the island and we were both welcomed by Barry and Katerina like long lost family! Such a warm welcome and such lovely surroundings... everything oozes love and attention, which Barry and Katerina put into their wonderful hotel. We had a beautiful room, all furnished with antique furniture and linens, so cosy, with a wonderful bathroom... all has been created with utter perfection and it is very luxurious.

I had read about Katerina's wonderful cuisine so I immediately asked if we could stay and have dinner, when Barry mentioned it was actually his birthday and they had family and friends over... a private party. Well, to cut a long story short, we got invited to join the birthday party, which was absolutely wonderful! Meeting & talking to lovely people, being fed Katerina's wonderful cuisine, drinking great local wine, singing & guitar playing by Barry and Katerina's daughter and this all on a warm Greek evening in their lovely Garden of Eden....

We cannot express our gratitude to both of them having given us such a very special night and I agree with others that it feels more like having met new friends.... We will definitely come back to spend some more time here and we can truly recommend all of you to stay here!

One great idea is to actually rent the whole place with a group of friends or family... You'll have great privacy, all luxury and you can have it all catered for by Katerina as well....!

If you want something very special we recommend you stay at this wonderful hotel... you'll love it!

Room Tip: I believe all rooms are different but very special.

I write this not so much as a review but more of a letter of gratitude to Katerina and Barry for the best short holiday I remember. We left their beautiful hotel and home feeling more like friends than guests; this was testament to their genuine kindness and hospitality, obliging nature and warmth of spirit.
The hotel costs a little more than some places on the Island but we couldn't be more pleased that we chose to stay at Museum George Molfetas. We received advice and suggestions catered to our own interests on what we might do each day from the owners: this really added a lot to our holiday, experiencing and seeing places we would never have discovered otherwise.
Katerina's cooking is exquisite. She was kind enough to give us the recipe for our absolute favourite dish she served us which is actually cooking on my stove as I type! Don't expect the usual taverna meal's though, Katerina cooks her own authentic home dishes and they eclipse anything you'll try elsewhere on the island and we happily ate in her restaurant every night we were there.
The rooms at the hotel are all unique and beautiful, each with their own story which Barry and Katerina are proud to tell. We adored our room, I've never slept so well in all my life! The bed was wonderful, the ambience was serene. The facilities were first class too.
I could keep writing for hours but I will stop here and hope you will take my advice and stay at the Museum George Molfetas!

Katerina's and Barry's hospitality and the beauty of this place make for an amazing vacation. I am sure that you have noticed the good reviews that everybody has given. This is the result of the amazing experience that you get when you stay in this hotel.
The rooms and the surroundings are very beautiful and the hosts treat you like being a member of their family. The food is also excellent.
Highly recommended for all travelers on vacation in the beautiful island of Kefalonia.
