AC, Hot water and TV did not work. Charged me double on my credit card and took three hours for them to give me cash back as they don't do refunds. Hotel and restaurant falling apart and dirty. Broken down cages hold zoo animals some of which have matted bloody fur. The rooms are $60.00 a night which includes eggs for breakfast and unfortunately one has to eat all meals at the restaurant as the other places in town are even worse. I made reservations a month in advance so no reason why they should put me in a room where the AC, hot water and TV don't work? The bathroom had 1000's of bugs in the shower. This is in the jungle and built on stilts over the water so someone probably left a light on which attracted the bugs.
The staff were always smiling but lazy and never cleaning off the tables from previous guests. My table still had the dirty dishes from night before at breakfast next morning. When walking by the kitchen I stopped to watch a waiter grabbing handfuls of food from each of three plates that were ready to be served to guests. She was stuffing her mouth as fast as she could gulp and chew.
The hotel/restaurant is in a beautiful setting actually on the water of the Lake Yarinacocha and except on weekends very quiet. But the river town loves loud music and girls in thongs dance on table tops in several restaurants next door so don't expect sleep till after 3:00AM on weekends. The best of what is available in Puerto Callao for sure but avoiding the area might be a better idea.
