“Contemplation & Depth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

Ani Nii Shobo provides a portal to connect with one's innermost self and with nature's transcendental force. Ani Nii Shobo is a place to contemplate life, enjoy the sounds of the Amazon jungle, and savor the taste of local fish and produce. Its unique architectural style allows for a submersion in the jungle.

This relatively isolated lodge is unique for it affords the guest experiences and insights into the people of the Amazonian rain forest. The cottages are clean and elegant in their simplicity; they sit on the edge of a lake and have no electircity. The central lodge is only a short walk away and affords an opportunity to meet the other guests and partake in sumptuous meals prepared from fresh ingredients right in front of your eyes. Central to my experience was the learning and participating in the plant based rituals of the region including saunas, herb baths, cleanses and most importantly an Ayahuaska ceremony every other evening expertly guided by the resident Shaman and his team. The singing is wonderful and adds a unique touch. Whereas the latter is totally optional, it is a very powerful tool to provide insights into medicinal rituals that are deep and meaningful for the original people of the rain forest; the Shipibos.

Room Tip: ask for excursions to local areas of interest; a river trip is amazing. I hear they may get some sco...
