“Great place to stay for weekend outside of DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

We have stayed at this resort twice now for convenience because we actually live in the DC Metro area. If you want to see the sites of Washington, DC this may not be the best place to stay as it is not close to a metro stop and is not walking distance to the Downtown area. If you, however, want a getaway then this is a great place. The hotel is pristine. The rooms are what you would expect of a Wyndham Vacation resort - clean, spacious and well-appointed. We stayed in a 2-bdrm presidential suite and this had a tiny stackable washer/dryer which served our needs for a few nights. The master bathroom had a jetted tub, and the rooms were just lovely. There wasn't much of a view from the room, but that was okay. The real deal about this location is the attractions. This hotel is located at National Harbor - DC's newest waterfront entertainment area. There are great bars, restaurants, shopping. You can take a water taxi over to Alexandria (which I have done) and get a great relaxing view of the harbor. Alexandria is all about walking around to boutique's and great restaurants. The National Harbor is also home to the Gaylord Convention Center which is a spectacle onto itself. Fabulous architecture, restaurants, entertainment. So if you are planning a trip for a conference at the Gaylord and have Wyndham timeshare then stay here for sure. The National Harbor also has seasonal attractions - "Ice" winter sculpture event, I saw a Cirque du Soleil show there, they have live entertainment and movies in the summertime. Just a great spot to hang out for the day. And the Wyndham is a great place to be your base for doing just that.

We stayed at the Wyndham for six days this November. The unit was just fine -- comfortable and spacious, especially for just two of us. The kitchenette was equipped enough -- But there were some problems.

The advertisement I had read before booking said FREE parking. No. Costs $11 per day, but very close. I called about housekeeping, because our bed had not been made up and we did not receive clean towels, and was told: "This is NOT a hotel. There are no housekeeping services." We were just fine, but it was advertised as a hotel . . . And then the timeshare presentation. Just don't go -- don't think you have to. They do NOT take "no" well at all. I was in a huge hurry to leave after that. They took twice as much time for that as was promised, and we could have missed our flight. They certainly do turn off the "friendly" after that.

October was a perfect time to visit the DC area. We enjoyed staying at this Wyndham. Our unit was nicely appointed and the beds were very comfortable. The staff at the front desk was very helpful. Parking was just across the street. We enjoyed walking around the harborfront area and dining at some of the nearby restaurants. There was no in-room laundry like most Wyndham properties have, but we had a laundry room on our floor with full sized machines. We also took advantage of the workout room. There is an onsite concierge who was very helpful, and the desk keeps late hours.

Very much a Wyndham property - clean, quiet great location. Nice views, nice staff, watch the sales presentation - they don't take NO well. Shuttle to Dc was nice and this is a beautiful little town with great places to eat and shop.

Room Tip: all rooms seem good - higher the better, very few balconies.

After a busy day we found our unit a great place to relax and regroup. The unit was immaculate. The beds were so comfortable! I guess one word to describe the unit was sound proof. We could not hear other guests in the hall unless we were standing right next to the door.
We found all staff members to be helpful and pleasant to deal with. We had a problem with one of the toilets. A call brought their plumber and maintenance manager to our aid.
We felt safe walking around the area. There are a variety of restaurants and stores within walking distance. My daughter wants to go back to spend a day in National Harbor rather than go into DC. My son-in-law appreciated the free internet. The morning we checked out was the day before the evacuations for Hurricane Sandy. A lot of us wanted to leave quickly. They had extra staff available for check out and to help us get our cars loaded and out. We want to return soon!

Room Tip: The outdoor pool is on the second floor in the front of the building. The spa and exercise room wit...

Our room was beautiful , check in was great. The only problem, our suite smelled like a dog had been in the room. They responded quickly . The solution however, was to send someone up to spray our room. This is the problem with all of the dog lovers in the world who carry toy dogs everywhere with no respect for the people checking in behind them. The venue was filled to capacity and we could not be moved.

This Wyndham property is very nice, well appointed and well kept. Unfortunately, you might as well be in Siberia after 9pm or so at night because there is very little happening in National Harbor. You can see DC from the property but the free shuttle only leaves every 90 minutes or so and the last shuttle back from DC is 8:30pm. The two bedroom "presidential" apartment we had was very large and quite nice but you needed a car to get food so that all the great appliances in the kitchen wouldn't go to waste. I'm sure there are great views from some other apartments but ours overlooked a vacant lot, which didn't make using the terrace all that great. The staff was very courteous but I get the feeling that everyone is really waiting for the casino to come and bring in more tourists. They offer a parking pass for the garage across the street but forgot to mention the per day charge that showed up on the bill when we checked out.

Room Tip: Get a apartment facing the harbor, not the vacant lot.
